"Oh, I see. My apologies, my suethor is dense. Refugee? No, I wouldn't say that," *he lied* "I've merely come to enjoy what Paris has to offer."
An escape from the past, hopefully.
"And why do you call yourselves refugees?"

*Rochester lifted a glass of juice to him.*
"Oh darling, you didn't think that you were the only one with dirty little secrets, did you?"
*He smiled playfully.*

"Oh?"
*Dorian grinned*
"I don't suppose you'd tell me about it? I do love a good story."
*Dorian watched Rochester, looking innocently curious.*

"I'm sure you do, love. But I'm afraid you might find it a bit boring like your own."
*Rochester was poking fun at the comment that Dorian had offered earlier, but he couldn't help himself. He smiled ear to ear.*

*Dorian glared at him, in mock annoyance and fought the urge to stick out his tongue.*
"I'm sure, Lord Rochester, that there is nothing the least bit boring about you."

"That, to be sure, would be an unpardonable sin in his book," *Alex drawled.* "At least my 'dirty little secret' is hidden by nothing more sinister than my clothing."

*Rochester grinned.*
"Oh...when you put it like that there's almost nothing I could refuse you. Let's just say that I'm not particularly welcomed at court in London at the moment."

*Dorian laughed.*
"Well, since I am not particularly welcomed in any respectable home in England, we make a fine pair. What ever did you do?"

*Rochester eyed him playfully.*
"Consorted with the wrong sort of fellows."

*Dorian grinned*
"The downfall of many a good man, I'm afraid."

*Rochester toasted him with a nod.*
"Indeed. Everyone acquainted then? I'd like to eat."

*Dorian grinned.*
"Of course."
*As soon as they'd begun breakfast, a servant appeared in the doorway.*
"A package has arrived for Mr. Gray," *he said.*
*Dorian stood up quickly, knowing exactly what had arrived.*
"If you'll excuse me..."

"I ate all the donuts!" *Kris blurted, but she followed them into the breakfast room. Alex sat down to finish her bacon, Kris drank some orange juice in a sudden fit of dietary rightness, and both of them imagined what must have gone on all night between the two men.*
"I'm afraid it is not only men who may experience a downfall, as you put it," *said Alex archly.*

*Rochester stood and wiped his hands, turning to follow Dorian.*
"Did you need some help?"

Absolutely not!
*Dorian did not want anyone to see his portrait, even when it was wrapped in a thick black sheet for traveling. He doubted that he could keep its existence from his host, as much as he wished he could. It was extremely heavy, and he trusted Rochester more than any servant. *
"Fine," *he said shortly.
