*Rochester was a bit surprised at her suggestion, but was quick to consent.*
“Of course, just let me get my coat and hat. We will have to take a hansom, unless you have your own carriage here. By the time mine could be made ready, it would be far too late to make the journey. Is that acceptable?”
*He looked hurried, but hopeful.*

"I walked...a hansom will do, anything," *she said quickly, reaching into the little silken drawstring pouch at her waist.* "I have money."

*Rochester raised his hand and shook his head slightly.*
“Please, let me. It is the least I can do for you and your family at such a time. Shall we?”
*He gestured to the door. He wanted to leave as much time as possible in hopes of catching the household awake and dressed.”

*Mitra nodded and went to the door.* "I'll hail the cab while you get your things, Monsieur--and thank you," *she said, going out and stepping into the street, raising a slim arm to wave at a passing hansom, which immediately stopped for the exotically-dressed and beautiful young woman.*

“Very well.”
*She hailed the hansom and he grabbed his things. Not completely dressed, he offered his hand to the lady that she might enter the carriage. Rochester had his coat halfway on as he mounted the hansom, his hat in his hand. He gave the address to the driver and they were off to The Halls of Macedonia.*

**NEW EVENING**
*After storming out of her father's house, Pina quickly realized that she perhaps should not have been quite so hasty in leaving. For one, it was raining. Pouring, really. The dark clouds hid the sun so it seemed past sunset, though it was an hour or so off. She'd taken cover in a doorway for the moment, but that did little to dispel the damp. With an irritated sigh, she wrung out her skirt uselessly.
Where was she supposed to go? Her mother's? It would be bad enough there- she and James certainly hadn't forgiven her for... well, what happened at Manderley, and she certainly didn't want to go back and risk never being allowed any freedom, ever.
And that brought her to her second option: Richard. Except for the part where she'd no idea where he lived. And it was pouring and it was dark and who on earth could she ask?
And that basically exhausted her options, unless she was to go back to the house by the lake, and there was absolutely no chance in Hell of that ever happening.
And then she remembered. Shadi! She knew the address of where she was staying, and it wasn't too far. She only hoped that her man was as good as she'd said he was, and wouldn't immediately freak out and call the police if a girl resembling a noseless skinny drowned rat appeared at his door.
She ran all the way to the house, but was still soaked by the time she arrived and knocked- or pounded, rather, on the door.*

*Nadir waved away the servant. He'd been passing by the foyer on his way to the sitting-room, anyway. Pausing, he turned and opened the door. He looked blandly at the young--very young--woman standing on his doorstep. He frowned, but he was already permanently frowning, so the only indication that he was frowning like a normal person would have frowned was that the wrinkles between his eyebrows got deeper. If one looked very closely.*
"...come in," *he said after a moment, stepping aside to usher in the girl out of the rain. He led the way to the sitting room.*

Shadi heard the door whilst brooding over her problem with Rochester. Which was even more of a problem, considering there wasn't one, really. She didn't want other lovers. Didn't want anything but him. She loved him. And she didn't doubt that he loved her.
She merely doubted that he should.
Rochester was, to her, like an exquisite, feral creature, a peacock. One did not clip his wings. One did not deny others his splendour. And while she didn't mind sharing, she rather thought he minded her not minding.
She was domesticating him. It wasn't right.
Lifted from her reverie, she bounded downstairs, surprised to find a sodden Pina but even more surprised to see her father there, too.
"Pina? Dad? I... what's going on?"

*She smiled a little. He'd let her in, at least. She stood awkwardly, trying not to drip too much on the carpet.*
"Um, thank you. Is, er, Shadi-"
*She was interrupted by her friend's appearance to the room.*
"Shadi! Er... Hi. I can explain-"

*Nadir glanced between his daughter and the girl who he'd known was Erik's daughter the moment he'd laid eyes on her.*
God I hope they're not sleeping together... *he thought wearily.*
"Shadi...your...friend is here. Excuse me, I'll be in my study--"
*He bowed shortly, almost as an afterthought, and left.*

Shadi stared after her father. Why was he even here? When had he gotten back? What the hell was going on?
She'd have to ask later, she guessed.
"Um..." She drew her attention back to Pina. "Sorry. I mean, hi. What's up?"
She peered at the girl. "You look upset."

"Er, yeah."
*She shifted awkwardly, grasping for words. After a long pause, she blurted out,* "Did you know that my dad and Julian are screwing each other?"

Shadi didn't exhibit the sort of shock or surprised he supposed Pina was probably seeking.
"Er," she said. "Well I didn't know... at first."
The truth of Erik and Julian's relationship was about as good a conversation starter as "you know your dad took me against my will, twice," and Shadi had not employed it at their last meeting.

"And you didn't tell me? I could have left back then instead of having the wonderful surprise of walking in on them!"

((Hell, for the record, the man who just answered the door is Julian's father.))
