*Nadir sighed at the familiar touch, though he hardly knew it. In truth, it had been years since he had known the tender intimacy of even a friend. Whores and loose women had been comfort, of a sort; but he had cut himself off from society, and so stricken himself from the company of intelligent, feeling humanity, and so wallowed in his own dark solitude. As flowers turned to the sun, the sleeping man turned his head ever so slightly under his former lover's hand.*

Alexander continued to stroke his lover's hair, marveling at the soft silkiness of the thick, heavy locks.
"You are self-destructive," he mused quietly. "You would destroy yourself in an effort to keep from being hurt."
He shook his head.
"It is no way for a son of Persia to behave."

He'd argue, if he were sober/awake.
*Nadir slept on, unawares; for some hours until the light of dawn began to creep from the window, across the floor, and onto the bed where he lay.*

Alexander settled in for the long wait, his fingers never leaving Nadir's hair.

*The creeping sunbeam soon settled on Nadir's face, then began to sting the edges of his eyelids, disturbing him from his deep sleep. He winced and flinched from the light, rolling over slightly with a small groan. He shook his head lightly, then harder, then reached up a hand to feel Xandros' where it lay on his head and his whole being convulsed with surprise as he hitched himself halfway-upright, turning to see where Alexander sat.*
"Dieu, Xandros, what do you think you're doing?" *he muttered.*

"Watching you sleep," Alexander said dryly. "Hopefully in a far less frightening manner than your...companion did, from the stories that are told."
He leaned back in the chair and held out a glass of water to Nadir.
"How are you feeling?"
His voice was gentle.

Nadir sat with his back against the headboard, drawing up his knees and resting his elbows on them as he cradled the glass of water he'd taken from Xandros with every effort to not let their fingers touch.
"About the same," he grunted with a shrug.

Alexander nodded. He had suspected as much.
"You are in pain."
It wasn't a question.

"It's nothing new. I can manage with it," he said carelessly, taking a gulp of the water and wincing.

Alexander leaned back and looked at him.
"Yes, brother, I suppose you can," he murmured.
"But I am still here to help, if you would but accept it."

"What makes you imagine I need your help, with anything? Or that if I required assistance, you would be the person I would ask?"
He set down the class on a low bedside table and slowly stood, stretching.
"Your nostalgia carries you too far."

"It is not nostalgia, but simple truth," Alexander pointed out.
"And you would ask for my help because, some time ago, I thought I had proven that you could trust me."
He paused.
"Or does that only apply to when you are blind and cannot see?"

"I want you gone by the time I get back," he said in a low, even voice that barely held his rage at bay.
Nadir levelled a single glare at Xandros before he strode into the bathroom and whipped the door shut behind him with a sharp bang and a click of the lock.

Alexander stood his ground.
Nadir was immensely dramatic, and while he understood the reasoning behind it, he had no intention of leaving until this was resolved.
Nadir could not spend his whole life avoiding him.

"WATCH ME."
A shave and a cold shower later, Nadir emerged from the bathroom looking very much refreshed. His steps slowed as he saw Alexander still present, but he said nothing and left the room as if Xandros didn't exist, heading downstairs to have a croissant and some coffee and get on with his day.
