***NEW NIGHT, POST-CARRIAGESMASH***
Nadir poured himself a drink with trembling hands and tossed it back, followed by several more, until he tottered over to his bed and fell upon it fully-clothed, passing out within moments, cool black nothingness blotting out his headache and his confusion.

He told himself this was a very bad idea.
But Nadir obviously couldn't take care of himself. And if he died, somehow, after Edward had saved his life... didn't that make it Edward's fault? He tried to imagine the world without Nadir Khan in it. No more spicy brandy/jasmine/falafel. The thought was too much to bear, and threatened to destroy his carefully-distressed hair with too much pulling, so Edward told himself that just this once, since he didn't know if Nadir had hit his head maybe, he'd make sure.
But it was hard to tell from outside, perched on the windowsill. What if he stopped breathing? Would Edward know? Besides, it was a further test of his will. He slipped inside silently, like a shadow of a ghost, pale as alabaster in the moonlight. And stood, still as a statue, watching the man sleep the booze-soaked slumber of ages, and decidedly not looking at his neck or... anything else.

Nadir continued to sleep, drooling a little.

At the sight of Nadir's drool, Edward felt an unbecoming pang of affection, and a need to take care of the man and shield him from all the evils of the corrupt world.
But that was foolishness, and what was more, would have to wait. After all, the sun would rise soon, and Edward could hardly be found sparkling in the man's bedroom. He slipped out in the cool pre-dawn grey, satisfied that Nadir was not, in fact, dead and that he had done a good deed.

((Oh, honey, please. Nadir IS the corrupt world.))
Nadir woke up slowly from his daze, hungover and ill. He wrinkled his nose, blearily glancing about, thinking someone was in the room, a servant or--no, he was alone.
He let his head fall back upon the pillow, staring at the ceiling and wishing for death. Or at least a glass of water. He reached to ring the bell, weakly tinkling it to summon a servant, forcing back a bellow of pain as the sound clanged in the confines of his skull.

***NEW DAY, POST-PARTAY***
*puts on the Linkin Park, curls up on his bed and sobs.*
"THIS IS MYYYY DEEECEEEMBERRRRRR!"
*Nadir returned home, suddenly feeling too weary to face...anything. Paperwork, cooking, drinking...nothing. He swigged cognac straight from the bottle and kicked off his shoes and pulled off his cravat and jacket before he threw himself on his bed and slept.*

Alexander stood outside Nadir's window and sighed. He did not want to do this, but there seemed to be no other way, and in his heart, he couldn't allow this man to slip out of his life forever.
Scooping up a few pebbles, he tossed one at the house.
After a few moments, he tossed another.

*Nadir was just sober enough to clamber to the window and pull the latch to swing it free, peering groggily out into the moonlit darkness as a third stone whizzed by his ear as his head poked out of the window.*
"Whaffahell? Whozzat? Whaayou want?" *he called hoarsely, rubbing his eyes.*

Alexander frowned.
Nadir was far drunker than he had suspected.
"Nadir," he said gently. "Don't fall. I need to talk to you."

Nadir laid his head on the windowsill, hearing Xandros' voice from somewhere in the darkness below him.
"I's sleepin'."

Alexander felt his heart melt.
Nadir was so defenseless.
"I know," he said tenderly. "But can I come up? You can go right back to sleep, I promise."

"Ba' door. 'Sopen."
*Nadir waved his hand ambiguously and slid out of view a moment before the window banged shut. He twirled dizzily on one heel and flopped face-down back onto his bed, dragging a large pillow into his arms.*

Alexander slipped around the back and into the house.
Charging upstairs, he entered Nadir's room and found him lying prone on the bed. He shook his head wearily.
"Oh Nadir. The lure of the wine is too strong."

An unintelligible murmur came from the direction of the pillow, but Nadir hardly stirred. It showed him at least able to listen, or hear. Somewhat.

Alexander came over to the bed and sat down by Nadir's head.
"I don't think it's any use to speak to you right now, love. You'd forget everything by morning."
He stroked Nadir's hair.
