I noticed Sydney, and silently moved over to her. When I was sure no one could hear, I began to speak.
"Does something about this seem...wrong to you?"

Sydney looked slightly down at Irene due to her height (5'11") with her high heels, "What are you talking about?" She asked briskly, still using her british accent.

I sighed. "I know this sounds crazy, but just think about it. Raoul had many enemies- there was a time when even I would have plugged him and not lost a night's sleep over it. Then, when he is killed, the man who confesses immediatley kills himself. And look around here- how many of these guests could be called his friends? I know for a fact that at least half the people in this room would spit on his grave if they thought they could get away with it."

Sydney stared at Irene, "Have you ever killed a person, Irene? A person that you knew and cared about at one point?" She spoke grimly thinking about Noah...
"You have no idea what that does to a person," she snapped then immediately changed her tone. "Nadir was a damn idiot. I told him I'd get him out..." Syd dropped her head, "Now, I've got to face Alexander..."

((Either that or there was more to it then meets the eye. Irene's been bored- I'm making this up as I go along.))

*Philippe, having drawn out his conversation for a long as possible accepted the reality that he was going to have to mingle.Fixing a firm expression on his face he walked over to where a blonde woman and the woman he had passed earlier were talking.* Ladies, may I thank you for coming to pay your respects to my late brother. Did you know him well?

I turned to face him.
"Yes. I knew him. We were lovers for a very brief time."

*Philippe hid his shock at the woman's bluntness. Clearly the reports he had heard from his friend in Paris about his brother's habits had been true.* I see. Well...*He struggled for words.*

"I'm sorry. I suppose this is not the appropriate time. I never have been very comfortable at these sort of things.
I inwardly kicked myself. I was only making things worse.

*Philippe smiled comfortingly.* Not many are. It was a pleasure to meet you.*He bowed and moved off into the crowd.*

Rose was not looking where she was going, and ran suddenly into a tall, dark-haired man. "Oh, I beg your pardon," she said.

*Philippe stumbled backwards, loosing his balance momentarily before steadying himself on his cane.* The fault is all mine Mademoiselle, I was not paying attention. Are you hurt?.*Philippe straightened up and adjusted his clothes.
