"Yes, you seem a very strong person indeed," Ramsey said insightfully, admiring her attractive features and elegant bearing. "I am sure your name must be Madame Resilient."

"It is not," *she said with a chuckle, holding out her hand in a cordial manner.* "Forgive me--I am Vianne Giry."

((Now you've gotten rid of Elizabeth, you have to pass her chuckling onto Giry? XD))
Ramsey took Vianne's hand and brushed his lips over her knuckles, perhaps a little longer than necessary but not enough to be called rude. "A pleasure to meet you. I am Lord Ramsey Cheltenham."

((She's happy and unencumbered by a violent and expensive husband for the first time in her life--so she's laughing a little. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) )) *Having expected him to shake her hand, she was a little taken aback at his courtly gesture, but she hid her surprise well and accepted his introduction with good grace.* "Are you a friend of the patron?" *she asked, suddenly struck with the possibility of the unfavourable connection with the Vicomte.*

Ramsey shook his head. "I made his acquaintance some time ago, but have not spoken to him sense. From what I hear, he is all too busy with... the fairer sex," he finished lamely, not wanting to offend her.

"Indeed he is much occupied with his...business much of the time," *she said, a sour note in her tone indicating just what she thought of the Vicomte.*

Ramsey shook his head, his mouth tightening perceptibly. "It is... upsetting to think of how many reputations and hearts he's ruined," he said. "Despite his title and wealth, he is no gentleman."

"Sadly, his kind are not uncommon. For all the gentlemen in the world, there are few gentle men left," *said Madame Giry, turning to feed the mare a sugarcube.* "I do what I can to shield my girls from him and his ilk."

"Then I'm sure you do much good," Ramsey replied seriously. Then his smile reappeared. "I could never imagine Madame Resilient falling prey to such a rake."

"I do not fall prey to anyone, Monsieur," *she said.* "And you know my name is Giry..." *she added, a little bewildered at his joking.*

"Ah, but we are all so much more than our names," he replied with a cheeky smile. "A name does not always accurately reflect the person it belongs to."

"And you find mine does not suit?" *she asked with a querying look.*

Ramsey held up his hands. "By all means, it suits," he replied, surprised that she did not take to his friendly teasing. He was intrigued.

*Vianne turned back to the horse, remembering her place and Ramsey's station.* "I meant no offense, Monsieur. You may think what you like of me."

Ramsey furrowed his brow. "Oh." He was taken aback by her chilly air, but something about her interested him and he took a step closer. "Perhaps you like riding?" he queried. "I take my horse to the Bois every morning."
