*returns to the Opera after her long and completely unannounced vacation to some unknown place...let's call it Africa...and enters the foyer carrying her small blue suitcase, a second bag bursting with souvenirs, and a large spear, which is slung over her shoulder and compliments the crocodile-teeth necklace she's wearing*
*calls out* I'm home everyone! Where is everyone? And where be my ICHY?

*Tessa strolled back through the foyer, tucking the rolled-up scrap of black lace that was her mask into the pocket of her voluminouos skirts, once again the picture of a perfect well-bred soft-spined senorita. She saw the brown-haired girl and smiled cattily.* "Hello," *she said in a ditzy rich-girl voice.* "We haven't met, I think! I'm Maria Theresa Alvarado, but everyone calls me Tessa!"

*offers her small white hand for a shake*
It's lovely to meet you Tessa! I'm usually around the Opera all the time and involved with several men in everything, but I've only just gotten home from spending a month with the Omnibusaguro tribe! Lookit what they gave me! *wiggles the spear*

"Oh that's fascinating! Where are they from? I spent a lot of time in the New World, and my father studied the local indigenous tribes for several years before...before..." *Her lower lip quivered.* "Well, he's dead now..."

*spots the lip quiver uncharacteristically easily and places a hand on Tessa's shoulder, struggling to do so without dropping the spear*
Oh my dear, I'm so sorry! Do you want to talk about it?

"No..." *Tessa straightened bravely.* "He'd want me to go on without him. Besides--I barely know you. It's hardly polite to force you to discuss it." Let's steer this conversation back to non-dangerous territory. Talking about Papa is not wise...

*slightly taken aback by an Opera-goer who doesn't want to wallow in her angst*
Oh. Um. Alright. *long pause* ...did you see my spear?

"It's lovely! May I?" *Tessa longingly reached for it.*

Sure! *hands it over*

*hefts it with an easy grace no well-born snobby girl should have.* "That's amazing! I love weapons--I mean--I love watching the big strong menfolk weild weapons in order to protect us helpless little girls." *Tessa blushed and handed it back.*

*replaces it to its place against her shoulder*
So Tessa, how long have you been here at the Opera? *begins moving toward the staircase* And would you mind if we walk while we talk? I'd really like to put all my stuff down in my dorm...

"Certainly..." *Tessa picked up her skirts and followed Bonnie-Marie.* "I've only been here a couple of days. I'm visiting Paris with my uncle, and I came to see the world-renowned Opera Populaire."

Oh, wonderful! I hope you enjoy your stay here. I'm in the corps de ballet despite having never auditioned for a thing.
*pauses at the top of the stairs and pretends to absorb her surroundings again while really just waiting a polite amount of time before asking...*
Since you've been here, have you met a gentleman named Ichabod Crane?

"No," *Tessa shook her head.* "The only gentleman I've met so far has been the patron--and I'd hardly call him gentle and, by definition only, a man."

*blinks*
Are you referring to Raoul de Chagny?
