"Are you hungry?" he asked, running a power check on his prosthesis without putting it on.

"I think so," she said, heading past him into the bathroom so he could shower as soon as he wanted.
A few minutes later she emerged, brushing her hair.

Adrian had managed to find the room service menu and was glancing through it.
"This is much easier with two vegetarians," he commented.

"How do you mean that?"

"Not having to worry about who can't eat what," he said, glancing up. He'd been squinting a little at the menu; it faded when he looked up at her. "Are eggs all right with you?"

"Yes, I think I get most of my protein from eggs," she laughed.

"I did that most of the time when I was your age," he said as he crossed toward the phone.
Adrian ordered two modest vegetarian breakfasts and checked the time.
"All right, while they work on that, I'm going to go shower. Are you done in there?"

"Yes, go on ahead," she said, sitting back down on the bed.

t only took Adrian a few minutes to shower and brush his teeth, even one-handed; scarcely fifteen had passed when he reemerged with damp hair and in an undershirt to start putting his prosthetic hand back on. It was a fairly complicated process, but at the end of it he switched it on again and experimentally opened and shut his fingers. Satisfied, Adrian went to start gathering his clothes.
That, perhaps naturally, was when someone knocked at the door.
Adrian startled and swore under his breath.
"Coming-"
He tossed his clothes on the bed and threw on the bathrobe from the night before in a hurry, looking faintly offended by the whole affair.
After he brought the food to the table, he took a moment to pinch his nose and quell the impending headache this brought on.
"Sorry- break in the routine. Give me a moment to get my bearings. Good lord, I'll never be used to traveling..."

Teja put on the radio while Adrian was in the shower, mostly out of curiosity, but switched it around until she found a station she actually liked. She took a while to decide what she was going to wear, but when she heard Adrian turn the water off, she put on a burgundy floral dress without a back and slits up the front. It was a little Kate Bush, but importantly, she could throw it on in a moment and look like she'd been dressed for a while. The door knocked just as the song ended and a new one came on. Teja smirked to herself when Adrian returned with the tray of food against a gorgeous saxophone melody; it was a little too perfect. "It's nice for me, as a vacation; if I had to do it for business I think I'd hate it."

"Until recently I was maintaining a whole collection of pièds-a-terre, but- well, really, how many residences does one man need?" he said as he took the cover from his tray.

"One, Adrian."
She was still smirking at him.

"I'm down to two," he said, mouth twisting slightly. "New York and Greece. Karnak can go to the devil, for all I care. Let future historians stumble across it and assume it the last vestige of some fallen civilization and not the vanity project it was."

"You better hope it's that far into the future that someone finds it," she said warningly.

"If I have to upstage Jon as the villain of the story, at least there's still a villain," Adrian said as he speared a forkful of egg.
