"Would it ease your mind if I cut back on the demonstration?" he asked gently.

"I don't know -" she started. "I... like it when you... It just reminded me of him, that's all. I had my eyes closed. It's - please don't stop-"

"Open your eyes," he whispered. "It's me..."

She took his hand and leaned her cheek against it, clasping it with her own hand.
"It's ridiculous to be this worked up over him," she said with a whisper and a hoarse laugh, looking around as though in broad daylight, flying hundreds of miles high, she expected him to be there.

"He can't possibly guess where you've gone," said Adrian as he put his arm around her and squeezed. "We can even do all the old superstitions if that would make you feel better..."

"Let's do them. Nowadays, you can't really be too careful, who knows?"
She cuddled into his shoulder.

"Garlic blossoms," he said with a laugh.

He kissed her forehead at the hairline.

"That's better," she said, now laughing abruptly because it had occurred to her how ridiculous this was, and she was waiting to feel sick again, because she'd rushed into it too quickly, and didn't want it after all, but couldn't tell him to stop - but she didn't.

He kissed her cheek now.

She beat him to a kiss on the lips, though it was a chaste kiss, short and without any sound - nothing their fellow travelers could complain about. But the quickness of it didn't give it the air of a game; it changed it from something playful to something more serious.

Another five hours later, Adrian was still kissing her.
Of course, there had been breaks between kisses- quite a lot of them, actually, what with the rest of the flight to account for, and the leaving the airport and making it to the hotel and all- but once they were alone, the kissing returned with a vengeance.
The hotel window looked out toward the bay, with one bridge in the distant right and the other in the left. They were positioned on a hill, so the city came to an even shorter-looking stop below them than New York looked like it did from Adrian's tower. It was really an impressive view, especially in the fading daylight, but Adrian had other things to worry about, like holding Teja up on one arm against the wall so he could kiss her at an even level.
