Yaoya frowned as she thought about it.
"I don't think so," she said. "I know you talk about him but I don't think you told me about that."

She smiled "It's complicated" opening the door to the trailer she plopped Edur down inside of a playpen and fell with an oomph in to the small couch. "Adrien was the son of the Snow Queen. I'd heard the story when I was a kid, but that's all it was to me, until I met him. His mother had no other name than that and he never told me if she did, she was just the Snow Queen."
She sighed "Best I can explain it is, years ago there was a mirror created by what they called the devil, I'm not sure if it was actually the devil but it very much could be, that would distort the world of whoever looked in to it. When the devil and his trolls tried to take it to heaven to mess with god and the angels the mirror slipped from their hands and shattered in to a million pieces and these pieces found their ways in to people hearts freezing them and causing them to only see bad and ugly things.
"Many years later there are two children named Kai and Gerda who live next to each other and are best friends who eventually fall in love. Kai's grandmother tells them one night of the story of the Snow Queen who has an army of snow bee's, she's seen where snowflakes gather the most. One night Kai looks out his window to see the snow queen calling him, he recoils in fear and doesn't see her again. The following spring, a splinter of the mirror gets in to Kai's eye, causing him to change and treat everyone badly seeing as now he see's them as bad and ugly. The only things he see's that are beautiful are snowflakes he can see underneath a magnifying glass.
"Eventually Kai is taken by the Snow Queen dresseds as a normal woman and Gerda sets off to find him. Most people believe he's drowned but the river tells her that he hasn't, eventually through her adventure she's sent to the Snow Queens palace. In the palace she finds Kai using the pieces to spell out, evigheden or eternity in English. He's alone and almost immobile on a frozen lake. If he does this the Snow Queen will let him go and give him a pair of skates, when Gerda gets to him she kisses him, her warm tears melt his heart and burn the piece of the evil mirror that had been in his eye for so many years. They danced on the lake and in their joy the pieces of the mirror swirled up spelling eternity on the ice.
If the Snow Queen had returned she would have been forced to release him, but they left before she returned."
Aideen looked over at Edur who was snuggling up next to a large blue rabbit toy that Adrien had bought him and sighed "It was a few months later that the Snow Queen disappeared leaving only a child with no father and a palace. Adrien was that child, he never knew who his father was. I'm only now discovering that it might have been the fabled Kai, he had no magic powers but when Gerda and him left they were both very much adults. It's very much possible that the queen had taken him originally as a way of filling her loneliness, but as Kai grew she found herself loving him differently. There's no proof that he had been on that ice long, it's possible that Kai found her beautiful due to the fact that she was very much the same as the snow she controlled. I think that Adrien's mother may have manipulated Kai so he forgot to who Gerda was and convinced him he had no one but her and when I realized this wasn't true that's when she cursed him.
"Adrien was like you and I, but so much stronger. He stole souls and kept them in jars and his own heart was frozen until-" she found herself crying "-until he came back to me. I had used him to unlock my powers, my mother warned me about the man who stole souls. She said that if he took it I'd be just like her, I'd have powers that would ruin my life." She laughed and wiped her eyes "Adrien took my soul and even then, even when he froze my heart I loved him and I think that he loved me too."

Yaoya found herself pulled into the tale, a story that sounded so much like the many folk legends that swirled around back home and here in France. And yet, she knew someone who seemed to be a part of those legends. Fantasy made reality. It didn't even occur to Yaoya that she was something of a myth herself, having the powers that she did.
"That is...so sad, and beautiful, and lonely, and--" she babbled, suddenly reaching to hug Aideen.
"You are like a story come to life. I just wish I could help you find a happy end to it."

Aideen hugged the girl and tried desperately to stop crying. She swallowed and held her breath, pulling back to wipe her eyes on a small towel hanging from the oven near the kitchen table. "Somewhere in Scandinavia there's a palace, made of ice and filled with the hearts and souls of a thousand men and women, this is the legacy he left for Edur." She laughed and looked up "He was a fairy tale and I was just part of it, our son is the one who melted his heart not me. I started the fire and that's it."
She looked down at Yaoya with a smile "Before Adrien all I had in my life was the contentment that all I'd ever be was a whore. I made money, I got by but any idea past the haze of opium and the string of men who barely remembered me beyond the money on the dresser, was impossible. Adrien never understood that I was fully aware of my situation, he promised me a way out of it all and I didn't see what he'd meant until he left. Complicated is a strong enough word to explain him, it never will be and Edur's eyes will remind me of him everyday."

"Complicated," Yaoya said softly. It seemed that lately, that could describe many people's lives. "I understand that."
She looked thoughtful for a moment. "Is the castle still there?"

"It's been there's thousands of years, I can only imagine it's still there. Adrien warned me that one day Edur would be drawn to it."
She leaned to the side and watched her sleeping child.

Yaoya fell silent, her gaze falling on the sleeping child. Being drawn to that castle...
"But maybe it won't happen. He's part you, too."

Aideen laughed "Maybe, I can only hope that if and when the time comes that he talks to me first. I don't doubt there are things in that castle that will warp his mind and I can not have my boy turned in to what Adrien was. He will know all of the good and the bad about his father, he needs to be prepared for a world I'm not sure I even really understand."
Aideen ran her hands through her bright red hair and sighed "And he's growing, god he's growing so fast and I don't mean like it's like he's growing fast, he's honestly two inches taller than he was last week."

Yaoya had noticed, but she hadn't been sure just how to bring it up without sounding like she was crazy. She should have known better with Aideen, of course--they were both unusual people, and had a lot of unusual things, so it wasn't that hard to believe such a thing about her friend's boy.
"Is that normal for...his father's people?"

"I have no idea, but at the rate he's going, he'll be a boy by the time he's three years old."
((I was thinking of making the Snow Queen and have her come and kidnap Edur, might be an interesting adventure.))

((Oooo, yeah. Add some more myth and legend to the 'verse.))
Her eyes widened a bit.
"Oh. Maybe there's a way to find out? The stories must come from somewhere, right?"

((Yaas))
"Maybe" she leaned back in her chair "I could always go in to Paris, check the libraries and I know a few men who run bookshops who also sell... oddities they may be able to help."

((Yaoya needs like an adventure or something to go on. She'd help out her bud. )) "Then that's the first place we can start."

She nodded.
"Okay! After practice? There's plenty of time between then and when the shows start."
((I have no idea what their schedule is actually like. xD))
