"Remember what I said about me and cooking?" He laughed "Do you want to test it out that soon?"

"Well in town," he frowned "but mom doesn't like me going in to town Paris is apparently dangerous."

Briefly, the memory of a certain terrible incident flashed by in her mind, but she shoved it back as far as she could. She didn't want that, not here and now.
"Well, but all large cities can be dangerous. Paris is no worse than London or New York or Tokyo, right?"
((Of course, she's thinking of big cities and Tokyo like old-fashioned Tokyo. She has no idea what a modern city looks like yet.))

"I guess not, I mean, I came from a pretty big city back home and it was way more dangerous than here. But we had some of the best cops in the world patrolling our streets and," he smiled a little fondly "The Batman."

"He is?!" Dick looked at her with a sort of fanaticism usually reserved for men of his age "Then Paris really must be in the dumps."

"I saw it in the papers. Someone with a camera got a picture of him one time. He was standing on the roof next to a gargoyle."

She smiled almost shyly.
"I wonder how he does those things? It's like he can fly sometimes."

"Who knows, I mean the guy's gotta have money right? Or military connections, how else can you explain all the gadgets?"

She frowned as she tried to figure out the unfamiliar word. Her English was pretty damned good now, but once in a while she ran across something that she hadn't heard before.
"Gadgets?"

"Huh?" He looked at her for a second not understanding, then laughed "Oh, his tools, gadgets, I've seen these ninja star looking things he's throw's, they look like bat's, hell I have a part of one" he reached in to his back pocket and removed his wallet, inside was most of a batarang "they're really sharp, here take a look."

"Ohhh, right," she said, feeling silly. Well, at least she'd learned a new word.
When he pulled out the object, she leaned forward to get a better look.
"It even looks like a bat."

"I bet he calls them something cool, the only thing I could come up with is batarang" he laughed "but I'm lame."
