While Batman had stayed out and about, perhaps being seen even more often than he had before everything had spiraled downward, Bruce Wayne had retreated from society, claiming illness and injury. But enough time had passed that his seclusion couldn't be blamed on those things anymore, and whispers started--that Wayne had had a breakdown, and was now keeping a low profile so that nobody could see his mental state now. Others say that he'd gotten so injured that now he was a complete invalid, confined to the grounds of Wayne Manor. Whatever the case, Bruce Wayne had become known as a hermit among his old social circles, an object of curiosity and some speculation, but no longer in the limelight. That was just fine with him. He'd never cared for any of that scene, and having completely cut his ties with it, he felt something of a relief at having to no longer play that game. Bruce Wayne the hermit, indeed. Though there were days when he loathed his isolation, but he made no move to break it--what was the point? Anyone he got close to would just wind up dead, kidnapped, disappeared, or who knows what else. It was best to keep his distance .
