Daniel didn't resist when Adam moved in, trying to repress a smirk.
"You should be more wary of strangers, you know. You can't be too careful."

Adam seemed to find this concern mildly amusing. "God watches over us," he said with warm confidence, ushering Daniel the short distance into the shelter of the open arcade walk. It was a bit tricky to balance his books in his slender arms as well as his new guest, but soon enough he was able to relinquish both, dripping.
"Now then..."

He bit back a snarky reply to the God comment--musn't chase him off at this juncture--and instead walked quietly along until they were under cover. Daniel leaned against the nearest wall, umindful of the fact that he was dripping water down the wall as well as on the floor.
"Doing a bit of reading, were we?"

Adam colored a bit, well aware that his books were... well-loved looking, but not at all sure why this would matter, or why he would feel shame. Bashfully he held them out for the stranger to see.
"Oh-- yes, I was having a moment of reflection," he said, blinking adorably. "St. Ignatius. Would you like to look?"

Saint...? How predictable.
He shook his head.
"That's all right. I prefer other subjects."
He was already starting to draw conclusions about this one, and was wondering just what the boy would make of what made up Daniel's usual reading.

"I very much recommend it," he said shyly.

He shook his head.
"No, thank you."

Adam took this as graciously as possible, leaning against a pillar.
"So where did you come from, sir?"

"Miami. Well...that was years ago." He smirked, briefly, then continued.
"But as for Paris: I go where I list."

"Miami? Where's that?" he inquired.
One hand ghosted over his hair, rearranging his rather soggy braid.

Daniel blinked. Well, there was a question he was rarely asked.
"Florida...the United States?"

More blank looks. Hope you like those, Daniel, because you're going to get a lot of them.
"... ah," he said weakly. "That's in America, isn't it? What brought you to Paris?"

"Yes. And, well, Paris was just one stop along the road. I like to travel, you could say."
Or, not stay in one place for too long so that suspicion doesn't follow. At least, that's what the reasoning had been until he'd broken that rule by staying here for so long.

"I'd never been out of my home parish until this year. It must be wonderful, to roam around like that..."

"It can be. That kind of freedom is fantastic."
