Erik smiled at her.
"Now then, shall I escort you home or will you manage?"

"I..."
And then she stopped, and pictured the look on Howl's face.
"That would be lovely."

"Alright then. Shall we?" He offered her his arm.
If only Charles were here to see his somewhat normal social skills.

**NEW NIGHT**
Nicolas had fled George's rooms after waking him however accidentally, still pondering a way to accidentally meet him again, thinking desperately of just leaving it to chance and hoping George chose some night to go out strolling instead of his careful little introductions into society. The night after, however, he'd woken from his sleep - in the cemetery, of course, having still not returned to the tower or to Aurel's castle - with a brilliant simple solution in mind. He still could not recall what had happened to his violin, but he was a vampire, had he forgotten? He would obtain a new one easily. He couldn't steal from someone else - even he had morals - but from a store, certainly. He lifted it with vampiric ease and left, not even having had to break in to obtain it - he'd just walked in and walked out, trembling though amazed at his ability to divert attention from himself with just a little mental enchantment. He had not needed supernatural speed; he had simply made everyone look the other way. No one had even known he was there.
Normally he'd have shunned these powers, not even thought of them, for fear of what would happen to his mind if he opened it to that degree. But though he waited, cautiously, for them to appear, no fits had come about, nothing of the kind.
He'd gone to an alley shortly afterward and perched upon a fire escape with his new prize, gingerly lifting the violin from its case, tightening and rosining the bow, and then, with a certain tenderness, beginning to play.
He did not notice any mortals who passed, for this was a darker area of town and he did not suppose he'd draw an audience here. And, since he was who he was, he didn't notice any immortals that passed, either.

Since Nicolas hadn't come back to his home, Aurel had never been so bored in a long time. He decided to go out to hunt for himself for a change, to blow off some steam. His servants thought it was a bad idea, but Aurel couldn't care less. He had to do something. The woman he had found was indeed a beautiful one. She had followed him to the darkest alley too easily - Aurel almost felt sorry for the foolish human. His seductive eyes, voice and lips had made her his, and she died before she could understand what was happening to her.
Aurel dried off some blood off his lips with a handkerchief, when he heard a violin playing in an alley nearby. He wondered whom it might be that played at this hour, and recalled that Nicolas had talked about wanting to be a violinist when he was human. Leaving the body of the woman on the ground, choosing not to get rid of it - someone was about to find it sooner or later and do it for him anyway - and walked toward the music. It was beautiful, Aurel could hear the skill of the one playing. He got to the right alley, looked up, and - just as he thought - found Nicolas being the one playing the delicate instrument.
Aurel stood silent, listening, and didn't speak until the music stopped. "Nice violin", he said, looking up at the younger vampire.

The music took a long while to cease. Nicolas did not pay attention to his surroundings very often when he played, unless he was specifically playing for an audience, as he had with George, and it took him a while to recognize that a rather strong presence had entered.
He recognized immediately when he did, and then his playing - which had been more or less a very extended variation on the song he'd started with, vampire skill making this effortless and graceful and breezy - came to a pretty little finish and he looked up with a smile, for once not defensive at all at having been interrupted in an unconscious mood of vulnerability. If Aurel had known him very well, he might have taken that as a positive sign, or at least a surprising one.
"You look charming," he said pleasantly, putting the violin away and stretching his legs on the steps of the fire escape. "Have you just fed?"
He was very pleased, irrationally pleased, that Aurel had gone hunting rather than stayed in that castle and lived off cold-kept blood.

Aurel chuckled. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, though it was unneccesary. His green eyes had a wild look, more shiningly green than usual. Aurel's whole appearance was more wild and intimidating than before, yet his elegancy and grace was still there, as always.
"Yes, I had nothing better to do. I had to get out of there sometime. And to hund again felt...." He sighed and looked up at the night sky "...refreshing. I've been in that castle by myself too long."
Aurel glanced at Nicolas again and his eyes fell onto his violin. "It's a lovely instrument you have there. Where did you get it from?"

Nicolas enjoyed watching him, taking in the look of him. Still so fair, almost like porcelain, but with the barest flush to his lips to give away the fact that he had just taken all that some poor and luscious little mortal had to offer; his hair seemed heavily mussed, and he wondered if a now-dead mortal's hand had sunk into it and urged him on in suicidal pleasure. He might have appeared mildly distracted by Aurel for a moment, for he took a moment to speak to him even when he himself had been addressed.
"Hmm, I stole it," came the reply, and he smiled, not even thinking that he'd expose his own vampire teeth. "I suppose I should thank you, maybe. The last time we met - " Oh, yes. He did remember that. He'd half-forgotten, but it was hard not to now with the man right in front of him - "you said, I think, exactly what I needed to hear."

Aurel grinned. "My pleasure." He walked up to Nicolas, closing the distance between them. His long gracious fingers gently slid across the violin, and his intense gaze went from the instrument to meet Nicolas's eyes. His rush from hunting and drinking fresh, warm blood hadn't worn off yet, and he felt as if he was able to do almost anything. Just as he used to feel so long long ago.
A part of him didn't like it. It could be disturbing to be so unpredictable all the time, yet there was a part of him who loved it - being unpredictable and to do as one pleased without thinking of the consequences. And, for now, that part of Aurel was stronger.
He let his hand move from the violin to Nicolas's cheek. He stroke it lightly with the back of his hand, then withdrew it. He looked down at Nicolas, still having (a rather unpleasant) smile upon his face. "So what will you attempt to do now, now that you've started to play again?"

He was rather secretly pleased, although judging by his smile and the way his face flushed and his smile he wasn't hiding the secret well, when Aurel in what looked like two steps (such was vampiric ability) joined him on the fire escape's skeletal metal steps. It gave him distinct pleasure to watch Aurel stroke the violin, as though he were praising Nicki himself. It wasn't his violin yet, not in the way any of his past violins had been, but he was its new owner and soon it would be, to his mind, an extension of himself. And he wouldn't mind Aurel's touching him as he touched the instrument.
As though he read Nicki's mind - and for all Nicolas knew, he had - Aurel lifted his hand to Nicki's cheek afterwards. Nicolas tilted his head against the touch without thinking.
If there was something unpleasant in Aurel's smile, it did not disturb Nicolas at all; it made him slightly more subdued, at least with enough reserve to stop himself before he answered, "Seduce George," which was the first thing that had come to his barely-conscious mind. He smiled back at him, reached up almost playfully and stroked the back of Aurel's hand with great informality.
"Oh, do you think I plan things?" he said, half-laughing.

Aurel smiled more gently now. "Why, yes. I certainly do.", he said, and then added "I just think that you aren't very aware of it most of the time."
He stared at the night sky again, studying the stars. He had always loved the sky, and had always been interested in astronomy when he was younger. How peculiar that he would think of that just now. Maybe it had to do with Nicolas playing the violin again. He had always been interested in literature and art as well...
Stuck in his daydreaming, he nearly forgot that Nicolas was still there.

Nicolas, although as a vampire he might not have called it day-dreaming, lapsed into silence often enough himself to not lament that Aurel was doing it. It was actually sort of flattering, in a way, sort of pleasant, that he had done so in Nicki's presence - sort of as though he were allowing Nicolas to see an intimate part of himself. And Aurel's response had been almost lulling. Certainly Armand knew him well enough to say the same thing, but he would have said it rather differently. Not as though gently chiding, but in an aloof and probably rather cold way.
He watched Aurel in a way that was similar to how Aurel watched the stars.
