"You ever heard of a game..." he echoed tauntingly, "Called '52 card pick-themselves-up?" The cards began to swirl around her feet, swirling around her in a tornado of sharp edges and closing in, slicing her every time they got close enough until her arms and back were covered in smooth, deep cuts.

Aideen yelled, the pain was worse than she could ever imagine, she couldn't take it anymore. With a gutter scream there was a flash of light and a the entire meadow was engulfed in flames.
After a few moments, it seemed everything for a couple hundred yards had been reduced to ash.

Luxord had dived out of his card moments before it was engulfed and was thrown across the clearing, the blast taking him the back. Pain cut like dancing flames across his body as he was thrown and caught fire. When the fire died down Luxord attempted to push himself up off the ground, but the pain was so intense he fell on his side, cringing.
Luxord wrapped an arm around his midsection and felt tentatively at the burned edges of his cloak that had been melted away by the heat, and the crisp skin that extended beyond that. 'Well,' he thought with a humorless grin, 'This all seems familiar... This woman could give Axel a run for his money...' Luxord pushed himself onto his knees and glared at their clocks. 'Good... I'm still in the lead... just another minute...'

Aideen came down from where she had been floating and set down in front of the man "Are ya goin stop the clocks... or do I have to stop yers?" She growled.

"You think I can stop it?" Luxord said with unusual vehemency, "Time is very particular in that it can never be completely controlled. It can be sped up, slowed down, and applied but it can only stopped for moments. The clocks will not stop until they run out." Luxord pushed himself onto his feet, wavering slightly, and held his head up with a tired smirk, "It wouldn't nearly be as entertaining otherwise, wouldn't it?"

The clock was ticking, and Aideen's time was beginning to run out, and with every moment spent she became another second to running out. Luxord did nothing suppress his grin. "Tell me miss, what do you think will happen when the clocks do stop?"

Aideen suddenly looked up and frowned "Well I imagine I'll be dead" she shrugged "just do me a favor boyo and don't let that bastard touch my child. I don't care how much he payed you."

Luxord stopped a moment and shook his head tragically, "Dead? Didn't I clearly say that I had no intention of killing you?" Just then the clocks chimed as the last second of Aideen's clock ran out. The air around them became distorted, reminiscent of when Luxord first summoned the cards, and time around them resumed again, except for Aideen who became frozen in place.
Luxord's grin turned into a satisfied grimace as he finally allowed his body to slump, tired and beaten from their fight. He limped his way to the frozen Aideen and flicked a strand of hair from her face, "When the clocks run out, time stands still," he said cryptically, "But only for an hour or two; all depends really."
Luxord then began slumping his way out of the clearing, allowing his badly burned back to come briefly into Aideen's line of sight. "And by the way," he called back, "Just so you know I haven't a solitary clue who you've been babbling on about this whole time..." His prone form continued to shrink just out of her field of vision until he was completely enveloped by the darkness and disappeared.

**TWO HOURS LATER**
Time finally came to in the clearing an Aideen fell to the floor "... he didn't know?" Standing up on shaky legs she started back to the circus.
She had a feeling that they'd meet again.
