Erin watched him in silence, gaze not lingering on Notre Dame's cigarette in a way that suggested he did want one. He simply watched him, to see what he was going to do next. After all, Notre Dame was the one who' walked in on him, not the other way around.

But Notre-Dame just keeped smoking for the longest time, not even wearing his ambiguous little smile, just glancing at Erin out of the corner of his eyes and puffing away.
Finally, just when it seemed like he was trying to bait Erin, he turned to Erin and - did not speak, but rather - blew a smoke ring into his face with a mixture of bawdiness and elegance.

Well, fine. Erin had been sitting in silence before Notre Dame had entered, and he could certainly continue to do so now. No problem. He slumped back in the seat again, one hand resting limply in his lap. Only occasionally did his gaze move back to Notre Dame, but the other one never changed, and so Erin's eyes would drift off again until Notre Dame blew smoke at him to make him screw up his face and blink, rapidly, narrowing his watering eyes at Notre Dame for doing it and waving a languid hand to dispell it. "Yes, Notre Dame? You got something you'd like to say?"

And there, finally, as though he had been waiting to let it pounce, came the smile.
"I got a great mouth, don't I?" He seemed to be trying to provoke something and also did seem kind of proud of himself. Although he was referring to the smoke rings, he could have been meaning anything.

"I dunno, I never hear it say anything."

"You gotta hear me speak to know?"
Smile becoming teasing.

"It's helpful, yeah. Since all I've seen- " Ohhh no. Erin cut himself off right there, jaw clicking shut audibly. That was not a sentence he needed to finish around someone like Notre Dame. "Communication is the key to something-or-another, some inspiring bullshit, don't you know."

Notre-Dame tilted his head slightly, looking at Erin as though trying to take him in. But after a very short while of this, he just shrugged and smiled. "So maybe you're right. So maybe someday I'll show you."
He took another drag and sat down airily in the seat he'd been leaning against.
"So why'd you move?"

Erin gave a little shrug, as if it didn't matter one way or the other to him; he was not so easily riled by Notre Dame today. "More people walk by. And no one wants to sit for anything length of time."

Notre-Dame blew smoke rings into the air like a fountain spurting water. "Not as intimate," he offered by way of explanation, voice soft as the smoke.

"So?" Erin gave him a raised-eyebrow look. "Why would I want to be intimate with any of them?"

Notre-Dame's eyes flickered over to Erin's, meeting his look without acting as though he noticed that it was just that. "Maybe they want to be with you."

An incredulous smile. "They can be with me. They can come up to the cage and everything. I don't even usually bite. I don't know what you mean."

Notre-Dame's eyes rolled in a posh and practiced flicker. "Maybe they want to be intimate with you. Regardless 'fwhat you want. I would."

A shrug. "I guess that depends on your defination of intimacy. If they- or you- want to be my friend, that's fine. I'm a friendly kind of guy."
