"I promise." Erin rose in one easy gesture and loped over to his dresser, on which was propped a small mirror. He bent a little to look in it, then shot Malika an amused backwards glance. "This your first try?" he asked mildly, but the corners of his lips were twitching suspiciously upward.

Malika tossed hair over her shoulder. "It will grow out tomorrow," she said, just as mildly, but with a sort of pride that dared him to talk and make her leave. "I'll have plenty of practice, won't I?"

Erin glanced back at her again. "Will you, now?" He didn't seem displeased, only quietly amused a little more; his tone was ever-so-slightly teasing. He straightened, running a hand through his hair to make it fall as he liked, eyes on the mirror a moment longer before he turned from it and towards her.

"Not used to cutting men's hair." She pushed herself off of the bed and went to press the scissors into Erin's palm, giving them back.

He put them back in the drawer by the bed where they belonged. Ah, shit, time to cut his nails- "Hang on a minute." He took a small knife out of the same drawer, his back to her.
"Anyplace you wanna go eat?"

"Noplace in particular," said Malika, who ate out rarely - never, in fact. "What did you have in mind?"

Erin, who usually found the closest food stall when he was hungry, was suddenly aware that a food stall was not exactly the snazziest of places to take a date, even one as informal as this one was.
"There's a Thai restaurant a few streets over, if you like. Or we could go to a cafe."
He placed the knife back in the drawer, newly shorn fingernails hesitating on the handle before he closed it. He was still wondering.... she was so familiar, the sound of her voice, the flash of her eyes, her hair especially, for some reason.... she was sitting sort of oddly, half-turned away from him, and hadn't moved the entire time. This was something he noticed rather absently, not consciously, and had nothing to do with her familiarity.

"Thai sounds good," she said, nodding. "I'll pay my half."
Malika never had any difficulty arranging dates, but she did not see the point of them beyond to get something she wanted, if she wanted anything. Sometimes she went out and was silent nearly the entire time. For some reason, she hadn't yet met anyone who had ceased to be fascinated with her at this.

Erin nodded. He'd offer to pay again, when they were done, but as a 21st century New Yorker he was used to woman being a little more picky about who paid for whom.

Malika hunched her shoulders a bit, putting her arms around herself, as she stood and they went to head out. But she hesitated before leaving, rocking back on her heel and glancing back and then looking at Erin apologetically.
"I don't suppose... look, would it be all right if I borrowed a sweater or something? I'll give it back after."

She didn't want to turn her back to him, but she tossed her hair first - easy; she did it all the time - and gingerly took something out, making it look like hesitance. After pulling it on - careful not to wince - she dashed to the door to follow him out, giving him a smile in the meantime.

He smiled back, hands in his pockets. Erin was about average for a guy, a little more on the skinny side, but his clothing still made her look tiny. It was cute. "You ready?"

She slipped her hands into the pockets of Erin's denim jacket and nodded, nudging his arm with her shoulder - the one that wasn't bruised. "When you are."

He nodded, and strolled out, pausing only to lock the door behind him. After that, it wasn't a long walk to the Thai restaurant. It was a tiny place, sort of dim, but Erin liked it a great deal because the food was delicious and it was never too crowded. As it were, they were not the only ones there, but they were the only non-Asians.
