*River starred at the pretty prostitute and glanced on to the streets, a couple of angry looking policemen were walking there way.* "Trouble." *River pointed at the men and gasped.* "Big trouble."

Sahara pulled her bodice up to hide her decotellage. "Is my line of work illegal here?" she whispered hurriedly. "Or is it just the fact that we're sullying a church, so to speak?"

"They're probably after me," *murmured Anya softly.* "It's not like I've done anything wrong, but--I should go." *She bent to pick up a rough cloth sack and slung it over her shoulder, along with her dusty, gauzy shawl. Her bare feet made no sound on the cobblestone street, but her metal ankle bracelets made a soft chiming sound as she began to walk away.*

Sahara watched her go, slightly puzzled, then shrugged to herself and left the square.

*River quickly past the policemen and kept her head down. She looked around to see where the gypsy girl had gone but she didn't see her. She didn't see anyone, river was now standing in a empty alleyway that looked rather filthy. River sighed and petted Rosette.* "Her toes were in the sand, strangled up inside."

**NEW DAY NIGHT**
The heavy rain pounded on the walls of the cathedral and the surrounding buildings, and the sound of it colliding with the waters of the Seine echoed around the square like rapid gunfire. Bonnie-Marie ducked under an archway as a clap of thunder sounded directly overhead. She'd hoped that the storm would let up after she left Le Rouge et L'Epine, but she'd had no such luck.
What a shock, she thought bitterly, that luck should evade me.

*Derek stepped out from behind a pillar.*
"Isn't it a little stormy for you to be out?" *He asked good-naturedly, despite the surroundings. His own lodgings were close, and he liked rain, which explained his presence.*

Bonnie-Marie gasped and jumped away from the pillar, pressing a hand to her heart and sighing with relief when she actually got a look at him. She had no idea why he was here and it made her a bit uneasy, but at least it was someone she recognized.
"I'm on my way home," she replied dully.

"In this storm?" *He wasn't affected by weather, but he knew she could become ill.* "How far are you from home?"

"Um--"
She suddenly remembered with a start that she'd once been quite attracted to him. That seemed so long ago (how young and innocent they were!). But now that she remembered, she decided she didn't particularly want him to know that she'd spent the last seven months in the dirty basement of a cheap boarding house; she'd been too ashamed of the facts surrounding her pregnancy to stay at the family estate.
"It's not far from here. I'll just..."
She made to head out into the rain again, but a powerful flash of lightning stopped her in her tracks. Storms had never been something that scared her especially, but this one seemed to be directly overhead and only getting stronger.

"My lodgings are just down the street. Would you like to wait out the storm?"
*The thunder didn't faze him, and the lightning flashes only illuminated his pale skin and made his golden eyes flash. Though he'd make an impressive picture while angry, his eyes were gentle now and his face was kind. She vaguely reminded him of a wet kitten.*

Two years ago she would have blushed and scolded him for suggesting such a thing. Nine months ago she would have pretended to blush and scold before going with him. Now she didn't really care to do either.
"No, thank you, monsieur. I'll just wait here."
She tried to sound casual, but it was difficult given the circumstances. Glancing at him out of the corner of her eye, she wished he didn't have to be so...alluring. She found something about him was overwhelmingly captivating, but knew she couldn't handle any emotional baggage right now. And she certainly was not willing to do anything that might cause another pregnancy. Ever again, for the rest of forever.

"Then the least I can do is wait it out with you."
*There was a conviction in his voice that said he wasn't going to be leaving; either the storm let up and he saw her safely on her way, or she followed him, and those were the choices.*
"So how is it you came to be here at this time of night?"

She shifted her weight and leaned against another pillar.
"I was making a delivery," she said calmly. She'd been prepared for that one.

*He nodded.*
"I was merely observing the weather, myself. I find storms fascinating."
