"Here...I'm sorry, but I haven't been able to go to market."

"It's wonderful, thank you" she took the food and began to eat slowly "I have one question" she said quietly "did I try to hurt you, or myself last night?"

*Joseph's brow furrowed for a moment. How common was this?*
"No. You were a little...confused. And disoriented. But we came to an arrangement. For the best, I think."
*His smile returned.*

"Good" she said happily "it's just when I get in to that state, I sometimes can't stop myself, I very rarely lash out at other people..." she took a drink of the juice and smiled.

*Joseph sat in the chair by the bed.*
"So...would you like to tell me about it? What's going on with you?"
*His eyes were gentle.*
"You might find that I'm a good listener."

"Oh come on father" she said with a small laugh, and noticed his sincerity "you really wanna know? Or is it your undying faithfulness to the all mighty that forces you to care?" She wasn't trying to be rude, he was being kind after all, but she was exactly a woman of god.

*Joseph gave her a stern look for a moment before softening.*
"God may be in everything, but is it so hard to believe that another my be compassionate towards you?"

Have you faced Satan? Try me.
*Joseph nodded gently.*
"I cannot know what you have gone through. But I am willing to help and to listen, if you will let me."

Anna looked down at her knees and continued eating, there was silence in the room for a long while before Anna finally said "Life was good for a while, when I was a kid."

*Joseph listened quietly, wanting her to be comfortable, even if it took a while.*
"Where was that? That you grew up?"

*Joseph smiled and shook his head.*
"None of us can choose the circumstances we come from."
*He nodded gently, as if to urge her to continue.*
"But you were happy then?"

"Back then, Mama and Papa were there, back then they were real people, gave me anything I needed, but I never asked for much" she gave a small laugh. "I wasn't very needy; that wasn't until I started needing, when I started needing was when they gave up." She knew she was being cryptic, but how else could she explain it.
"I made some bad friends, I really didn't know the difference, because of where we lived mama wanted to keep me secluded, and it worked for sixteen years."

*Joseph looked at her sympathetically.*
"Anna...it is not your fault. Sometimes we all wander astray."
*His eyes sought to comfort her.*
"Please...go on."
