*Richard thought Marie might be more at home in a few large rooms with gilt and mirrors. So he arranged for sumptuous quarters in a few out of the way rehearsal rooms.*
"The servants will bring in furniture," *he said.* "But do you find them suitable?"

*Marie smiled at her new rooms. The foyer had been distressingly garish, but this part of the opera house was not as overly ostentatious. This, coupled with the novelty of staying in an opera house indefinitely and finding the gems, put her in a good mood*
"It is excellent, monsieur. I believe that I shall like it here."

*Richard smiled, and would have clapped his hands together if it wouldn't have looked stupid.*
"Then I am doubly pleased, your highness."
*He bowed slightly.*
"Should I leave you to settle in? You have doubtless had a trying day."

*She nodded*
"Merci, I would like to. But before you go--"
*She opened up the little bag and pulled out a small, but flawless, sapphire*
"See if you can have this appraised. I am wondering what they are worth."

*Richard forced his eyes from the gem, lest he appear too interested.*
"Your majesty, honored I would be to perform such a task for you."
*He bowed his head and took the sapphire, securing it in a pocket.*
"I shall return on the morrow, when you have had a chance to become settled from your journey."

*She gave Richard a slight bow of her head*
"I will see you on the morrow, monsieur. Guard it well--pickpockets run rampant."

*Outside, away from the room, Richard took the gem out again to study it in the light from a large window. It was flawless; its color ran deep and it was certainly worth a lot of money.
Just how much, he thought to himself, Madame Wig need never know.*

*After settling in and setting the room up the way she wanted, Marie realized that she was actually rather tired. It was silly, truly--she hadn't done all that much in the day. It had to be her return to life and push into the future that was the cause.
Stifling a yawn, she dressed in something more comfortable before flopping down on the bed. It was nice, only have to attend to herself and not having servants poking about. Soon, she was softly snoring.*

**THE NEXT MORNING**
*Richard, dressed in his finest, limped up to the former queen's rooms. He had found a buyer for the sapphire, and taken a cut--just the merest bit--for himself. Gems collected more than he would have guessed in this time, and was figuring on inflation to be a factor in what Antoinette expected as well.
She'd never notice, and his coffers were getting bare.
He knocked on the door.*

*Marie had had a pleasant sleep, dreaming about the good time she'd had back in the past. It was mostly about her children, although some of it was peppered with childhood memories of Austria. Once she'd completely awakened, she found that she'd have to borrow some clothes until she bought more for herself to wear. It was one of the curious, though pretty, modern fashions that were being worn in Paris. Having been expecting Richard, she answered the door with a smile.* "Bonjour, monsieur! I am pleased to see you returned."

*Richard smiled ingratiatingly.*
"You are looking well, your highness. Quite caught up to the fashion of these times."
*He bowed, and then offered her a purse filled with notes and coin.*
"Your sapphire, my lady, fetched quite the fortune. The fates smile upon your return."

"Merci, monsieur."
*She took the offered items, smiling a bit wider*
"Wonderful! We can now be more comfortable and have funds for our endeavors."

*So trusting. So like a woman, queen or no.*
"Indeed. Have you thought of what direction those endeavors might take, your majesty?"

"I've thought about it, and realize that if we want to get anywhere at all in this, we must find where the real balance of power lies in this place."
*She lowered her voice*
"Because there may be a King, but he may not be the one who is truly in charge."

*Richard inclined his head.*
"You speak true, your majesty. You must have been quite a queen, in your day."
((Now, the problem here is that I don't know what they're going to do or who they'll talk to.))
