Christine nodded to that. It was true. And she always felt as though she'd nodded because an invisible string had made her - tugged on her head and made her, as though she were mesmerized. She hadn't thought of herself as someone mesmerable before. She hoped this wasn't going to lead to issues. It was hard enough trying to keep one's integrity as a chorus girl as it was.
"Well - I - " she started, not ineloquently, but rather, as though she started a sentence and discarded it, almost flustered. "I don't think there are a lot of people around who would do that," she said, finally moving her hand as she gestured around at the empty, black hallway. "It's sort of late."

There was a heart-stopping moment of uncertainty, and it was odd that there were so many of those in his life considering the utter command with which he lived most of it. Or perhaps they were of a piece. Every instinct warned him to stay away, to disappear as quickly as he'd arrived.
He ignored them.
"Would you allow me?" he asked solicitously, for the girl needed someone after all, and if no one was about, it could do no harm.

Christine shrugged, glancing away as though suddenly reminded of something rather awkward, then sort of delicately readjusted the shoulder-strap of her dress, it having slipped a teeny bit with that shrug.
"Of - course, monsieur," she said, looking back at him, inching to the side and kneeling* to retrieve the fallen scarf. It had unfortunately draped its corner over the dead man's leg, and Christine was not anxious to touch a dead man.
((*aka cleavage. In case you didn't get that.))

Erik stooped swiftly and retrieved the scarf for her, at least the part touching the man. This, of course, afforded him an even better view of her, though that was not his original intent, even if it was not unwelcome. He would have chided himself for his thoughts, if he'd remembered to, but it was hard sometimes.
He handed she scarf to her, still stooped slightly, almost as if bowing. His fingers were long but not weak-looking, delicate but capable. Things had changed since the last Christine. Erik had far more experience now. A year ago, this might have meant an attempt at seduction--but then, he'd been handsomer, then. Now, it meant he was, if anything, more reluctant to enter into anything that would allow yet another person to leave him.
That reluctance was not very strong, however.
"Come, mademoiselle," he said. "There is a dressing room not far, and you can rest."
