((A safety pin? What would you do, make their pants fall down? Some spectre of fear YOU are.))
*Fievel considered this.* "...so you're saying I could chew through some ropes? How would that help people?"

((Dude. LEROUX.))
*Erik shrugged elegantly.* "You never know. Besides, you asked about making a difference, didn't you?" *He frowned. Perhaps he'd gone too far, and compromised the mouse's apparent innocence.* "Nevermind. Erik only mean to assure you that size... is not everything."

"Oh." *Fievel thought for a moment.* "So it's, like, how you use it?"

((Oh my gosh *dies laughing*))

"Exactly," *Erik nodded.* "Along with, shall we say, what else you bring with you. You experience, your equipment. They are your instruments, and many delicate things may be done that make all the difference in the world."

"I want to help people! Like you!" *chirped Fievel.*

*Erik shook his head, bringing his attention back from wherever it had momentarily gone.* "Um, right. Good! Well then..." *A glint could be seen in his sunken eyes.* "Have you met anyone else here, Fievel?"

*Fievel thought for a moment.* "Yes! Two girls--humans. Bonnie-Marie de Chagny and...and another girl. I never learned her name. I fell into her powder puff box by accident."

"Hmm." *No telling if the powder-puff girl was Christine or not.* "Well if you meet a human girl named Christine, with golden hair and sky-blue eyes, will you tell me? It would help very much."

*Fievel thought a moment.* "...I met a girl with yellow hair and her eyes were kind of grey. Actually, all of her was grey. She's in monochrome. I don't know her name, but is that close enough?" *He perked up.* "I could watch out for her! Would you like me to do that? Most people leave me alone or don't notice me--I can come and go without being seen. I could find this girl and keep an eye on her. Is she in any danger?"

((Ahh, innocence. How useful I find thee...))
"Very grave danger, Fievel. She is a very good singer, and that makes people jealous. I am her... teacher, so I take her career very seriously. It would be most helpful of you to let me know if anyone comes by to bother her. Would you do that for me?"

*Fievel nodded furiously.* "Of course, Erik!" *His little heart beat with heroic pride.* The girl's in trouble! And I'm going to help keep her safe! *He beamed.* "I'm going to go start looking for her. Right now!" *He stuffed a last lump of Brie into his mouth, distending his cheeks a little as he clambered down from the counter, swinging on the cupboard and drawer knobs to the floor, where he scambered towards the door, turning back to wave.* "Goodbye, Erik--where can I find you, if I find Christine?"

((That's a darn good question.))
*Erik had to smile at the mouse's enthusiasm, not to mention the ease with which he had gotten his way.* "Do you see that panel there, the wood slightly discolored? If you need me, leave a button or some other token beneath it. I will know, and come find you. Good-bye, Fievel."

*Fievel grinned and nodded, then whisked out of sight and from the kitchen.*
