*The girl picked up her pace, fleeing through a network of tunnels. She'd taken a lit candle from the house and its feeble light barely kept her from running into the passage walls. She felt like she would never be able to breathe properly again, but she went on...*

*The Phantomess had been idly wandering through the domain that was a mirror image of hers when she heard the footsteps. They were light, and moving fast. Wondering what person had been foolish enough to wander into the more trap-laden area of the cellars, she took several different paths until she found the girl.
Just a slip of a thing*
"What in the world are you doing here, girl?"
*She said, from behind the fake wall nearby*

*The girl gasped in terror, whirling around.*
"Who's there?" *she whispered.*

*This girl was not a ballet rat, in fact she did not look as though she were of any part of the opera house*
"You speak to the Opera Ghost." She replied. "She wonders if you know of the dangers of this area."

"The dangers...back there...I know all to well," *she said shakily.* "I don't want to go back," *she cried.*

*She frowned, though the girl could not see it*
"Indeed, Erika would say that Erik is a danger. But she also means this area--it is full of traps that Erik put up for the unwary. You are very close to one, in fact."

*The girl froze.*
"I'm going to die," *she whispered.*

"Nonsense!"
*For some strange reason that she couldn't fathom, the Phantomess didn't feel like harming or scolding this particular girl. In fact, she was feeling an uncommon amount of charity*
"The Opera Ghost can show you the way out, if you wish."

"Please," *begged the girl.* "Show me..."

*Erika pushed a button, and with a grinding noise, the fake wall pulled back to reveal both the Phantomess and the secret passage behind it*
"This way, then. It leads to the backrooms of the opera house."

*The girl ran towards the shadowy figure.*
"Thank you...thank you!" *she whispered frantically, her brow furrowing as she came nearer.*
"...you're a girl!"

*One corner of her mouth turned up in a half-smile*
"Of course the Erika is. She has never been anything else."

*The girl smiled, but it faded quickly after a moment.*
"The opera? I am...I am in an opera house?"

*As usual, a raised eyebrow that couldn't be seen*
"You do not know where you are? This is most disturbing. And yes, the opera--the Opera Populaire in Paris, France."
*She added the name of the city and the country, should the girl want that as well*

"France...I did not know where they sent me in particular," *she said quietly. "Only that I needed to be able to speak the language..."
