"Wow. And Erik thought he was hardcore."
*Erik blinked.*
"You have no sense of self preservation," *he observed.* "It's a wonder you are not dead already."
*He grabbed her forcefully by the arms and propelled her into a marble bathroom.*
"Now. As you are Erik's property, you will listen to him, no matter how much bile you may spew. He will not suffer a filthy thing like you in his house. Will you bathe yourself, or must he watch over you lest you attempt to drown yourself?"

"No," *she said, pulling against his grip.* "Do not...do not look at me. Do not watch." *she shuddered uncontrollably as she recalled the countless days of travel to Marracech...being watched at all hours by a guard...the other women in the slave caravan weeping with shame...*
"...I will bathe." *she mumbled.*

*Erik's eyes narrowed as he watched her for a moment. Then he shrugged.*
"Very well," *he said. It wasn't as if there weren't more where she came from.* "Erik shall be very put out if you bleed all over his tile, and will make you clean it."
*He turned and left the room, only to sink into a chair wondering what the devil Nadir was thinking.*

*The girl waited a long time before she shrugged off the loose tunic and eased into the hot water, wincing as it lapped against her bruised and scratched flesh. It had been a very long time since she had actually washed, and she did so hesitantly, gingerly cleansing the cuts with hot, soapy water, and washing the grime from her hair. The water was an unpleasant murky gray by the time she'd finished, but she felt better, physically, even as her mind revolted against the idea of appearing human to this man who now owned her. She poked around inside an armoire until she found a robe--much too large for her, but she supposed that was all for the best as she wrapped it around herself, clumps of her dark, wet hair falling over her face as she went and sat silently beside the tub. She wasn't about to go out there and invite him to have her.*

*After sitting for some time, Erik began pacing. Women! As if he needed another one. What was that blasted daroga thinking?
At least he heard the water run out, and he hovered outside the door. He was, in truth, more intrigued than anything else. Her matted and dirty appearance had not recommended her for much, truth be told. Who sent people in crates, anyway?
He knocked on the door, his brow furrowing as he realized he had nothing to call her.*
"Girl, are you moping or are you dead?"

"...neither," *she said, standing up, ready to fight him if he came in.* "It's cold. I don't want to come out."

*Cold? Obviously she was from someplace warm, but she had not yet adjusted.*
"There is a fire in the parlor," *Erik said.* "And some clothes that may fit you. Erik is certain they are quite modest enough to suit you," *he added drolly. He went to Christine's old room and haphazardly retrieved some things that had been left. He may as well open a costume shop, he reflected.
He set the pile next to the bathroom door.*
"You cannot escape," *he said.* "The doors are hidden, and even if you found one you would be wandering lost in the cellars and catacombs until kingdom come. So you may as well dress and be warm."

*The girl listened for his retreating footsteps before she opened the door a crack and took the clothes inside. Choosing a dark blue dress with a square neckline, quickly dressed. It was a little large on her, and had clearly been made for someone taller, but it was better than the robe. Along with the appropriate undergarments, (although she had no idea what to do with the corset, so she ignored it,) she put on a pair of shoes, though she had gone barefoot for so long. Adding to this a warm shawl wrapped around her wet head and shoulders, she crossed her arms and slowly crept into the parlour, crouching near the fire like a feral child.*

*Erik looked up from his book--a copy of The Dark Knight Returns Megan had left--to glance at the shivering girl. The clothes made her look small, and they were Christine's. She must be barely a child.*
"Not very well-trained, are you?" *he said conversationally, looking back at his book.* "I hope Nadir did not spend too much for such a frightened little thing."

"I am no dog to be trained, monsieur," *she snapped.* "Nor am I frightened."

"Fine, fine," *he said, waving his hand negligently.* "Erik would have thought a gift would come without such acrimony, but it doesn't matter."
*He looked at her for a moment.*
"You look better clean," *he said.*

"Of course I do," *she growled.*

*Erik shrugged.*
"Erik is just pointing out that the service is terrible," *he said.* "Who ships people in crates? Erik shall have to talk to Nadir about this. Now I suppose Erik has to feed you as well."

"You don't HAVE to," *she answered with a shrug.* "Whether I live or die is of no consequence to those who sold me or bought me. You could leave me in the crate until I expire."

*Erik made a face of disgust.*
"Only the consequence of rotting flesh stinking up the place, which Erik does not enjoy even without his nose. What barbarians you must have lived among."
*He still wasn't sure what he was supposed to do with her. She was rather attractive, now that he thought about it. He'd gotten rather out of practice looking at girls.*
"Well, Erik is certainly not going to serve you," *he said.* "Kitchen's over there."
*he waved his hand vaguely.*
