*Quasimodo wandered the catacombs, deathly afraid of the rats and the dark and the wet, having been left there around a week before by Frollo. He never should have gone to that festival... this wouldn't be happening if he hadn't. He should have known that they would know, and that they would otracize and persecute him... he was ugly, he was loathesome.*
*Miraculously, he found himself wandering some kind of Cellar with an underground lake.*
"Hello? Is anyone there?" *He called across the lake. At this point, he was desperate.*

"Nerve of him," Elphaba muttered.
She turned back in the direction of the house.
"SOME PEOPLE HAVE NO RESPECT!" she shouted.

*Quasimodo attempted to hide from the scary green woman, but failed miserably because his wide shoulders rather got in the way of hiding behind rocks. He made a spectacular fall instead, slipping on the wet rock, letting out an 'oof' and realizing that his knee was going to hurt a lot in the morning... if her ever saw the light of day again.*

Elphaba shuddered a bit at the sight of all the damp surrounding her, but was disrupted by a sound that bore a remarkable resemblance to "oof".
"Um, hi?" she called.

*He groaned.*
"Stupid knee." *He muttered, before she began speaking. He could see her, and she was all tall and scary, and she would hurt him like the other people had. He gasped a little before scrambling to try to hide behind a rock.*

Elphaba edged away from the lake.
"Well, I don't have anything you'd want, and if I did..."

*He cowered behind his rock, covering his face with one large arm.*
"Please don't hurt me." *He said desperately.*

Elphaba rolled her eyes.
"I'm not in the mood for hurting."

*He suddenly got a good look at her over his arm, and he lowered it in sheer astonishment.*
"Are you... green? Or is that the light?"

Elphaba groaned.
"Yes, I'M GREEN. Yes, I was born like this. No, it's not contagious."

*He sighed.*
"I'm not worried about that. I've been down in the sewers for the week. I thought I might be hallucinating."

"No, you're not. Does the disembodied voice have any other nosy questions?"

"I wish I were disembodied. It'd be better than this one." *He said wistfully, crawling out from behind his rock to stand before her.* "See?"

Elphaba had to stifle her expression of almost intellectual curiosity.
"Ah- OH. I see," she said lamely.

*He nodded sadly.*
"I left my home in the belltower and I was... punished. And I was left down here."
