*Jay Gatsby stood on the edge of the roof, violent winds whipping at his long coat, though his fedora stayed perched impeccably on his head.*

It's a nasty night out here, sir. *Avarielle stepped forward, her long dark hair blowing around her pale, pretty face.*

"Indeed," *he said in a dark voice, not even glancing backwards. Staring down into the black streets below let his mind fade into a dreamworld where Daisy was still his...where nothing had ever gone wrong...*

Perhap's that's- that's not the best place to stand in weather like this, sir.

"That's the idea," *he murmured, placing one foot (in an expensive and fashionable men's shoe,) upon the rain-slick edge of the roof.*

Sir, no! *She moved forward quickly, grasping his arm in a way that was, well, rude. But she didn't really care.*

*Jay slipped back, stumbling slightly and having to hold on to the girl tightly as he leaned against her. He righted himself, his expression dark and turbulent.*
"What were you trying to do? Kill us BOTH? I could have slipped the other way and taken you with me! STUPID girl!" *he bellowed.*

You have GOT to be kidding me. You were about to SLIP and FALL or JUMP and KILL YOURSELF. You should be thanking me, you ungrateful- *She snapped back at him, throwing in a few of the more colorful words she'd learned on the streets back home.*

"Shut up! Shut up you stupid bitch!" *he bellowed, shaking her by the shoulders for an instant before he let go and turned sharply away, his shoulders heaving. A long moment later, his voice had calmed.*
"Forgive me, mademoiselle," *he said, his voice curt and cold, speaking of bitter restraint from darker emotions, held in check due to impeccable training from society.*

*Of course, she was more pissed off than ever, striding after him and delivering a punch to the face with a power that seemed incredible for such a petite person. But she'd always had a good arm.*

"NO!" *Gatsby leaped forward, but she was already slipping over the edge. He fell to his knees upon the wet stone and extended his hand.*
"GRAB HOLD OF ME!"

*Gatsby pulled her up, back towards the flat space on the roof, his muscles bulging rippling straining. He caught hold of her elbow with his other hand, putting more weight into lifting her back. All at once the balance shifted and they fell back onto the roof, landing rather hard with the girl's slim form straggling across Gatsby's torso.*
