"Ba--" *Faye glanced back at Richard for a moment.* "...he...they...never said anything about...banishment."

*Death stretched his bony fingers further towards her, his gaze imploring.*
"Please, Child...trust me. Come with me and I promise that I will return you to your Bloodsire unharmed. I just want to talk. Please."

"My what?" *Faye looked increasingly worried as she took Death's hand.*

*Death pulled Faye to him, wrapping his cloak over her. He gestured with his skull to Richard and whispered in her ear.*
"The one that claims you of his blood. Faye...don't be frightened. Close your eyes. We're going somewhere safe."
*His voice was gentle. Then he turned back to Richard, his voice louder once more.*
"Viceroy, your ward will be safe, I swear it in an Oath of Blood. Patience and she will be yours again."
*He pressed his teeth softly to Faye's ear, whispering again.*
"Are you ready? Keep your eyes closed."

*Faye shivered, but nodded, keeping her eyes shut tight. She was dead and denied the man she loved. What worse could befall her?*

*Death wrapped her tightly in his embrace and the pillar of blackness fell sharply into a pool, disappearing into the shadows. They had vanished in a matter of seconds.*

*A few minutes later, the inky pool reemerged, growing into a black tower before taking the shape of Death. He drew back his cloak, revealing Faye. His voice came strong and assertive.*
"See, Viceroy? I have honored my Oath. Your ward is returned unharmed. She has sworn to upkeep the laws. As long as she does so, she will be safe from the High Court. All is as it should be."
*He whispered to Faye.*
"Go now and be safe, Faye. Be patient and keep a watchful eye. I will keep in contact. When I know more, I shall tell you. Good will to you both in this, your difficult hour."

Richard scuttled down from his perch on the base of the statue and bowed.
"In the meantime, Miss Lavoie has absorbed some of my essence, and the High Court is trained to give me diplomatic immunity. Individual persons are of no consequence to them; they only recognize essence. I trust that this will keep her safe for now?"

*Death looked down to Richard.*
"Viceroy, care for her. See that she is looked after. All that can be done has been done and she knows what is required of her. If she upholds those laws, the High Court will leave her be."

Richard bowed deeply, looking downright diminutive in front of Death.
"As you will it, Lord Thanatos."

*Death lowered his head to Richard, bending his body to get close to his face, a whispered hiss escaping his teeth.*
"I'll be watching you. Now is there anything else, Viceroy?"

"Not at the moment, my lord," said Richard, bending forward stiffly.

"Then so be it. Go. Go now and leave me!"
*Death looked to Faye once more with a hint of sympathy and melted into and inky pool. Then the pool vanished into the shadows of the roof and he was gone.*

*Faye stood still, not even trembling anymore--she may have been another statue on the roof for all the signs of life she exhibited.*
"Here," *she said, holding out the second locket to Richard.* "Please...see that this gets to Aimery. And--try to explain to him...I'll wait for him."
