"-please don't call me Adrian," Veidt said, holding his hands palm outward as though to gently repel him.

"You want me to use the version from my native tongue?" he wisecracked. "I could, but it would get awful confusing."

"I- look. I think you're overestimating how much this was- I don't know, an outlier in my life."

"We don't have to talk anymore about Manhattan," he said abashedly. "I'm really sorry I talked about it."

"It's fine," Veidt said again. "I guess I'll go get the video set up, hmm?"

"I guess. Let's see if your pajamas fit me."

"I'll stay with you, if you'd prefer, when it's ready."

"Yeah, I'd prefer that." He smiled at him hesitantly, then stopped again. He followed him back out of the room.

"You know," Veidt admitted as they walked away together, "I suspect he actually cared more for our arrangement than I did."

“He seemed disappointed,” said Veidt. “Frankly, I didn't know he had it in him. I know he's not entirely emotionless, but I had assumed I was of little value to him beyond amusement."

"I imagine nobody holds a candle up to him," said Adrien, sliding behind the couch with the pajamas to try and pull the bottoms off. He started laughing as soon as he tried to tie them, shaking his head in amusement and catching himself before making a joke that he looked like a hobo, which he realized Adrian would find rude and unfunny, and then, afterward, he realized that's because it was.
He came back around to the couch again and perched on an arm at a leisurely pace to pull the top on.

“I hope that will do well enough,” Veidt said. He sat down on the sofa again and studied Adrien for a moment longer.
“Will you allow me to take care of you, as a kind of proxy, at least? I don’t think the optics will be ideal if I spoil you, but is there anything you would like? Clothing? A haircut?”
As soon as he said this last suggestion, though, Veidt caught himself and made a dismissive gesture.
“Strike the last one. If either of us needs a haircut, it’s probably me.”
