"I'm... I'm sorry," she said vaguely, looking at him for a long moment before looking out the window instead, a number of negative emotions all battling for dominance to stand next to how sorry she felt for him. Anger that he would compare her to his brother after Loki did all that seemed to be winning, and she grit her teeth, not wanting to ruin anything else by lashing out at him.
"Even if it was only two days, you must have really loved her, to care that long."

"I never said I didn't really love her," Thor protested.

"I- never mind. You can ignore me, if you'd like, I'm not doing very well."

"Do you want to go home?"

"I don't know what I want to do."
Megan laced her fingers together and took a deep breath before saying, as calmly as possible, "It kind of hurts, getting compared to a genocidal maniac for crying a lot. I know you didn't mean it like that, but Christ..."

"I mean, by that token you barely know me-"

"I barely knew Jane-" he countered.

"She was apparently worth waiting thirty years for, though," said Megan. "I'm not questioning that, but..."
She paused.
"Thank you for helping me with the tree. When we find a gas station with a Dunkin, I'll get you a hot chocolate too. I don't want to talk about this anymore. I've messed up a lot of other chances at having friends by being horrible and I don't want to mess this up too."

Thor was bewildered and himself a little hurt that Megan was by her own admission so angry at being compared to Loki, with whom she shared so much to begin with from being jealous as a general personality trait to being a magic-user, that she wanted to say something "horrible". He only nodded and listened to the Christmas music as they drove on in silence.

"I know you didn't mean it," she repeated, more gently this time, "but I found it... really upsetting."
She sighed.
"And I feel bad, because I'd hoped we could get along better than this."

"Loki may be a maniac," said Thor, awkwardly, "and he was genocidal that one time. But it was because.... he had a lot of problems." Thor sighed too. "...Problems his best friend should have been able to see coming."

“You didn’t know everything any better than he did,” Megan reminded him. “You can’t blame yourself for a variable none of you saw coming. Sure, he tried to screw up your coronation, but everything after that was just... I don’t know, escalation, it sounds like, on something none of you could have known about. Best friend or not, you’re not a mindreader.”
She reached across the gearbox to smooth a stray strand of his hair that had fallen over his cheek back behind his ear.
“And you’re even less obligated to keep an eye out for me. Besides, I like you too much to be dreaming of sabotaging you or whatever.”

"I like to think Loki likes me at least as much as you do," Thor laughed. "But it is.... I don't know. It's true it's entirely his own fault that he tried to destroy the entire planet of Jotunheim and tried to kill me multiple times in order that I wouldn't stop him or get in the way of his ruling Asgard. But all the conversations we have had since then.... I have been made more aware than I once was of how many of his problems should have been more obvious. Do you know he never had any other friends in Asgard but me and my friends? And they don't like him that much, it turns out."

“Well, probably also hard for royalty to make friends without your sheer force of personality,” she teased. “That’s a pretty big story trope here on Earth, the lonely prince or princess.”
She leaned on the armrest of the car door and added, “Anyway, I’m pretty sure I like you more, and I’ll fight him on that if he makes me.”
