Das Mädchen ward zum Morgenlicht,
das durch das Tale schien.
Der schwarze Müller fand ein End
und ward nicht mehr gesehen.

Teja and Loki returned to Midgard after a day or two in Asgard. She met Sleipnir, her delight with the horse seeming to ease even Loki's flightiness and suspicion at introducing her, and Loki even took her riding - on a different horse, though, for Sleipnir was as fast as his reputation said he was, and not a great horse for a beginner to ride.
It was easy to see how much he belonged there, in spite of all that he'd formerly said, in spite of all his wariness. The pressure on her head reminding her that she did not was easy to alleviate when they could hurry through the ornate golden halls to his bedchamber and kiss, but now that they were home again it was a near-constant throb. She had kept herself from snapping at him, but she wasn't sure how long it would be.
Normally, this was what she went to Adrian for - a bit of a break from things with Loki - but Adrian had his granddaughter now, and she felt loathe to keep intruding on his life. She felt a little bit like a home-wrecker, even though that was silly and she knew it: Adrian hadn't suggested he didn't want to see her anymore now that he had Ingrid in his life, and probably would have loved her to meet her. But Teja felt upset about the fact that his grandchild and her marriage only made it more clear that they couldn't be together in any monogamous way. She and Adrian did see each other, once, on Official Business; they coached Loki for some appearance or other, which he aced, of course; and it only drove home further that if there had been a chance for she and Adrian in the past, it was long gone.
And she felt so much guilt for thinking that it drove the thought of seeing Adrian right out of her head.
Of course, there was someone else....
It was only a few days in before Johannes came back to mind, with a powerful vengeance. He'd made her promise not to grow out her hair and not to tell Loki, and Loki knew, and Loki had grown her hair out for her. And now she'd gone from telling Johannes she wished it were just the two of them to marrying somebody else. What could she say? She had come back to him, officially, and she couldn't go back and say, "Well, after all, it turns I shouldn't be with you, so..." What could she do? She stayed away from him, far away, for as long as she could.... but one day she happened to be shopping on the Upper West Side...
She moved to his street and then his door in a trance, too fearful and mesmerized to even think of what she was going to say when she rang the doorbell. But it couldn't be unrung once she had rung it - honestly, the thought of him seeing the back of her as she ran off after was enough to glue her to the spot - and she would have to think of something, because now she couldn't leave.
