Alex held one article up at a distance where hopefully Herbert could take a look. He wasn't so good at seeing far-away stuff any more these days; maybe it was contagious.

Whatever it had originally been it was shaped like a spider and looked extremely handsome. Once upon a time, a very long while ago, Alex had been taught by a nun, and that nun wore festive holiday-themed jewelry, which seemed not like good nun behavior but whatever. This was like the ritzy version of that.
"Holy shit. I don't even know how to gamble. What about this?"
He fished out a pretty impressive gold chain.
