With Dan and Nina the only ones aware of Teja and Loki's presence in the house, Adrian was in no hurry to inform the others. He had decided against calling a formal dinner earlier in the day and spent the next several hours down in the employees' village working on a solar absorption roofing panel prototype.
When he came back up, it was nearing sunset. Adrian knocked on the door of the suite where he'd deposited the alleged demigod and his fiancée with a plate of vegetarian fare for Teja.
"Knock-knock. Room service."
(This was the kind of thing that somehow convinced people he was a Fun Boss.)

i'm not even sorry
Teja slinked into the doorway, leaning her shoulder against it and crossing her arms somewhat cutely.
"I didn't order anything," she said, tilting her head to the side to look at him appraisingly. While bitterly anxious about her faults, she was aware of her strengths too - full hair, a great jawline, slim neck and fabulous collarbones, in a pretty honey-brown color, all especially true when backlit by the Greek sun - and since Adrian Veidt looked like, well, Adrian Veidt, she didn't feel too bad about flaunting that.
Besides, by his own admission he'd tried to kiss her.
"Not even you."

Adrian held up the plate.
"From one vegetarian to another."

"Oooh, food!"
She was genuinely delighted. She was bad at food, and Adrian knew a lot more things to eat than she did, which was ironic given that by all accounts he subsided largely off pills.
"What is it?" she asked, taking the plate and bringing it in.

Adrian glanced around the room.
"Oh- he's not here?"
Well, of course he wasn't. Or was it they weren't? Loki had snapped something about not being a man or a woman.
"Anyway- it's a vegetarian paella. Rice, tomatoes, bell peppers..."

"He's out somewhere. House-hunting, I suppose. You can come in, if you like."

"Thank you."
Adrian pulled up a chair at the table and sat, gesturing for her to join him. He was dressed very casually, collar opened and sleeves rolled up.
After a moment, he decided to just go ahead with it.
"Is he correct, or am I making another crude assumption-"

"What?"
She took a seat opposite him, not realizing her eyes glanced over a bit of his own exposed collarbone.

"H- Loki was very emphatic about being neither a man nor a woman when speaking to me last night," said Adrian. "I don't want to repeat my ignorance."

"...oh."
She thought about his wife and put together a very messy, uncomfortable backstory in a matter of moments.
"Loki is a woman sometimes, but it's not very often. He usually changes depending on how he feels, and he'll tell you when it happens. Otherwise....'he.'"

"...right. I'll keep that in mind."
There was a short pause.
"You're rather more approachable about him than he is himself. I don't like having to be this underhanded-"
He stopped and smiled wryly.
"-but I've gotten pretty good at it by necessity."

She laughed brightly.
"Well, he still doesn't like you, after all."

"Well, he is rather perceptive, isn't he?" Adrian laughed. His manner had relaxed, though under the table he was still jostling his leg up and down. "That was my great mistake, letting him form an opinion of me from personal experience rather than marketing."

"And what about me?" she asked, minutely flirtatious but genuinely wanting a sincere answer.
