"No," Peter laughed, although it didn't sound all that natural between the tears "I mean you flew, like you're a pilot?"

"Oh" Dan chuckled "uh yes, I can fly just about anything."

Peter wiped his eyes "That's, that's awesome."

Dan knew that Peter was just trying to distract himself and he could appreciate that, but now Dan was most certainly high. He kinda leaned in to the phone and let the warmth of the sun bake over him like a blanket "Yea it's pretty cool man, we flew down here in a 1981 Dassault Falcon 50-40, a french built long range jet. It's got an s duct central engine and max speed is mach 0.86 or 568 miles per hour" he laughed "if it wasn't any more obvious that I was a nerd, there you go."

"No I get you" Peter was glad to listen, he didn't know much about aeronautics but he did know engineering "s-duct engine? What's that about?"

"Peter I could go on all night about shit like this-" he smiled "-but are you really interested in hearing it?" He knew the kid would get what he meant.

"Please" he curled his knee's to his chest "might be good information for the future, in case sometime in my future I decide to become an airline mechanic."

"With your brain it'd be a waste" he replied "all right fine, but be warned it's boring as hell" he took a deep breath "a s-duct, or serpentine inlet, engine is a type of jet engine created in the early 60's as a solution for positioning the central engine on trijets, that of course are private jets with three engines-" Dan proceeded to talk about jet engines for quite some time while Peter listened, interjecting only to ask questions.

Peter listened intently, he was entertaining and from what he could tell probably inebriated. He made learning about jet engines interesting and most importantly distracting; he knew that Mr. Dreiberg was only doing it because he knew that Peter needed to be thinking about anything other than the last day.

"This can't be interesting, I sound like an instruction manual" he laughed and turned over, even in his state he wasn't in the mood for a sunburn.

"No it's fine" Peter finally moved from the floor and crawled in to his bed, kicking his shoes off as he did "I now know enough to be able to build my own jet plane if I'm in a pinch."

"If you're ever in the kind of pinch that means having to build an airplane, call me, because you're in trouble."

Peter laughed softly "Yea probably" he was quiet for a few seconds "thank you, Mr. Dreiberg."

"Hey don't mention it" Dan replied "look, kid, if you need anything, anything at all, just let me know."
