Even in the sudden quiet and dim light of the apartment, it took Teja a moment to recover. She dropped to her feet and stood with the steadiness of a newborn fawn, holding onto Loki the entire time. As upsetting as Loki battling that woman had been, however, the physical reaction she was having now was almost entirely in response to being the focus of the laserlike gaze of an entire crowd of emotional people. It was difficult to be in highly populated areas like NYC as it was, and places with large crowds were always a gamble, but that was too much. Any careful self-control went right out of it.
She was better capable of judging when there were not distractions, though, and she was beginning to put together that Loki's own mental disturbance right now was actually excitement.
"Don't tell me you liked that," she said, mortified. But of course he did. Here was the supplication he'd wanted when he'd come here. And she hadn't ever truly been enough in that regard - not that she'd been supplicating herself lately in the first place. "Oh my god, Loki."

He set his headdress on the counter and pushed his hand back through his sweat-dampened hair.
"I- I did," he admitted. "If it even happened, I mean-"

"If - what happened?" she asked cautiously, catching on a little. "Jess Cartwright's body was taken over by some kind of monster that tried to steal the scepter and you fought her for it. Her, and a bunch of clones that kept bursting into confetti."
She was amazed she wasn't dissociating. Well, she supposed she was a little. A lot of the time, she and Loki having the same negative reaction to something went very poorly, but thankfully, for the time being, it was a little grounding to reassure him.
"It really doesn't sound like it happened, does it?"
She was already coming closer again, reaching for him, lifting her hands to touch his hair.

"...it got into my head," he muttered. "Once I had it... I don't trust myself around it."

"It's all right. It's not here now, is it?"

He grinned.
"Of course it's not. I saw you running toward me."

She frowned. She hadn't been mad at him for holding the scepter, and him joking about how she'd have been upset her more than she wanted to let on.
"Regardless-"

"You didn't like it even a little?"

She looked up at him hopelessly.

He sighed.
"I'm sorry, darling, I should have brought you home first."

"....you really liked it, didn't you."
It wasn't a question, but a dawning realization: she'd somehow forgotten Loki's desire for recognition and worship, but that didn't mean it had gone away. Somehow, in the wake of him being made the heir of Asgard, he'd given the impression he was entirely over it. Now she supposed he still wanted all those things, just not in the manner Odin had forced them on him.
"I mean you really liked it."

"Do you know how many years I hoped for even a fraction of that?" he said softly.

She sat, folding her hands in her lap, and looked at him.

"And look at that. No tyranny, no bootheels to the neck."
He put his hands on her shoulders and leaned in.
"I think you're rubbing off on me, love. "

She smiled up at him shyly. "Tyranny has its uses..."
