If it was a creature versed in magic, so too could Frigga fight with magic.

"Yes, good, thank you - no-"
He was suddenly very small again, and out of breath from trying to parry off his mother's attack pattern. The trouble was, she didn't have much of a pattern .
" Mother- if you'll give me half a moment-"
He nearly staggered into something that he saw contained a pair of sleeping babies without fully registering anything more complex than "don't knock that over" and set it right with one hand as he dodged again.
"What do I have to tell you-"
He resorted to holding out one of his daggers, one that had fallen with him, horizontally to allow her to see it and (hopefully) understand that he meant no harm.
"We were standing over Odin's bed- Thor came in, he said I tried to slay him- I won't deny that now, Mother, do you understand, I only care that you know it is I-"
Holding a dagger at your mother and talking of slaying Thor, brilliant, very convincing-

Frigga defeated him with effort, though not because her skills were impracticed. She was an old and wise being, a Vanian goddess married to the King of Asgard, and it was reflected in battle, though she preferred not to do battle. But fighting with a creature in the form of her son stirred up buried memories like a fragrance. Moments here and there reminded her of teaching her own son how to fight and do magics, so much that she was almost certainly impaired.
Suddenly, she realized there was more to this than mockery, more than the hope of unraveling her. It was an armour as well, for as long as she looked back into her dead son's face she could do no more than block; she found herself sooner freezing than harming him - it. Him.
With a swift kick of her slippered foot to his chest she knocked him to the floor and stood over him, her sword above his neck, preparing to take the killing blow.
"Now remove this cruel glamour," she said, looking down at it, hard, hoping the effect this deceit had had was not apparent in her face. "Die in your true form, creature, or it will be a slow death coming."

Loki stared up at her, chest heaving and tears streaming from wide, shocked eyes.
"I- I can't do that..."
He scrunched his eyes shut and waited for the blow. She'd never seen his true form, it wouldn't save him, especially not with how far it had advanced, teeth and horns and half his hair gone...
"I'm sorry. I can't, I'm sorry-"

Frigga stared down at him - it - in a heightened state of anguish, wanting to hurt it further for its refusal, and the fact that it had caused her so much pain.
Tears fell from her eyes and she tilted her head back, blinking them away, looking down at it with cold clear eyes. She would pronounce its sentence whether or not it would comply -
And the breath went out of her then, looking down on her shirking son, the boy whose every wound she had tended to, visible or otherwise, for Loki had required bandages for every bump, the child who had experienced so much distress even unto his adolescence, and then adulthood - and in the greatest moment of hurt and need she had not seen it, thinking she was guiding him to maturity when she trusted him to take the throne, not knowing she had doomed him - failed him. She could not see anything then but centuries of her son, her favorite son, blended into one endearing fastidious and teary image.
Queen Frigga's sword fell to the floor with a clamoring noise and Frigga got herself away from her intruder as fast as she can, tripping over the hem of her dress and crouching on the floor, looking fearful, and unsure.

Loki pushed himself up on his elbows, blinking blearily and still breathing heavily. His head was aching along the line of the scar in the back, under his hair, but the more recent blow from the repo man wasn't helping, either.
He pushed his hair back, but lifting the one arm put him off balance, and he almost fell again, with a short, pained noise.
"Mama," he said weakly, "it's me. I- I swear it-"

Still short of breath from battle - a battle she had nearly won, oh heavens - she whispered one word, eyes widening in more horror. "Loki?"
Pushing herself from the tiled floor with a pained look on her face - she'd fallen backward on her leg strangely - she was by his side in a moment, moving as though to put her arms around him, faltering as though she did not know how, or thought that, if she touched him, her hands would come away with dust on them -

He practically fell on her, clutching her against him in silence and pressing his tear-dampened face to her shoulder as though it had been thirty years for him, too.

As soon as he was in her arms, she let out a cry. It was not the hysterical tears of youth, or the silent tears that had been her grief for this long time, but a thin wail, short and bleak. She buried her face in the top of her son's head and clutched him all the tighter.

"I didn't know how else I could get in, Mother- I'm so sorry-"
He'd developed a profound stammer in his distress.

She whispered her own apologies, her horror still too great, what had she almost done-

"...I should have just used the Bifrost," he muttered.

She laughed. It sounded both hoarse and songlike, coming in the middle of her crying.

"No one knows I'm here but you," he said once he had found his voice, "though I think I terrified your maid in the hall only slightly moreso than I did you. I wish there had been another way-"

She had remembered the lie, and the truth as well, but neither of them touched her in her mourning. Now, though, she realized the enormity of the distance between the story in the Asgardian streets and what happened before Loki fell into that abyss so long ago.
Thinking of that, she was shocked again.
"How did you survive?"
