Fandral felt a sudden sinking sensation in his stomach realizing there were probably aspects of his crimes Loki had kept so well-concealed that Fandral and the others still didn't know about them.
"Well, you told the guard to get the Allfather," he said evenly, in as light a tone as he could manage. "It didn't turn out so poorly."

"And you lived to bed me thirty years later," said Loki, who was beginning to feel rather proud of this accomplishment.
He leaned up a little further, until he was sitting, and automatically set about disentangling his hair from around his horns. It would have been more convenient to simply reglamour, but now he had a point to make.

Fandral aided him in this endeavor somewhat lazily.
"Took you long enough," he said idly. His fingers moved over something that felt too irregular and too soft to be a ridge.
He frowned. "What's this?"

Loki frowned and reached back to determine if this merited another snappish comment.
"Ah," he said when his fingertips met Fandral's. "That would be where I struck my head on impact. I don't think of it much- as you can imagine, I don't habitually go out like this, so it doesn't often show."

"You struck your head?" It was hard to conceal how ghastly this notion was. He had fallen a long distance. "How did you survive the fall?"

Loki shrugged the way someone would if they didn't have an opinion on where to go for dinner.
"I'm here now, aren't I? I don't recall it very well. I had... other things in mind."
He laughed hollowly.
"You know, I tried to acquaint myself with the history of this place. I visited one of their museums, found myself wandering into a hall dedicated to their meagre understanding of the universe, decided to watch a film while I was there...
"It was... a simulation of what falling through- what they think it would be..."
He glanced at Fandral.
"Well, I vomited," he said succinctly. "And someone recognized me, and there was a nice little item in one of their papers about it the next day. They assumed I was drunk. Former mayoral candidate Lukas Ashton- that's what I've been calling myself- making an utter ass of himself in public. Again. If we're going to be..."
He gestured at them, their bodies, the sheets.
"...you probably ought to know that in truth, my social status is lower here than it ever was in Asgard. Better to be clever and disliked than a laughingstock."

Fandral didn't know how to express his sympathy over that. He was certain that upset Loki in a way he would find it hard to commiserate with without somehow making it worse.
"...ah," he allowed. "Loki, why don't you reveal yourself for what you really are? No one would laugh at you then."

Loki paused mid-detangle- his hair was about as snarly as he tended to be- and pressed his lips together.
"That was originally part of the plan, but... priorities change."
Still, he looked rather pleased by the idea, and was beginning to smirk a little.

"The plan?" Fandral echoed. Loki planning was never a good sign.

"I wasn't yet cured of my desire to rule," he said, with another small shrug.

Fandral gripped his forehead and then pushed his hand back through his hair, shaking his head.
"Forget I asked," he insisted, wondering what Thor knew. What the mortal girl knew. He didn't truly want to know. It... complicated things, and for once Fandral was at a place with Loki he didn't mind being in.

"Teja was all in favor," he said, holding up a warning finger. "The decision to abandon the idea had to do with someone else entirely, and I'll have you remember that next time we're at odds."
He was smirking more broadly now and leaned over to kiss him again.

Fandral held up a hand and rolled over onto his back to digest this new unpleasantness.

"What? We learned a few things that gave us pause, the both of us. I could tell you, but you're looking a bit green," Loki commented. "Between the two of us we might make a very handsome sort of ocean color."

"I don't want to think about you trying to take over Midgard, or your finding a woman who approves of it. I'm trying to assume the best of you."
