She cracked a smile.
"...I would enjoy that."

Regina smiled, a bit more genuine than she'd expected.
The prospect of having a roommate, even for a short time was surprisingly interesting to her. There was nothing in the apartment that Miranda could find that would implicate her in anything, her laptop and phone was on her at all times and when it wasn't she locked it away in her desk.
The only person she'd ever had over was Dan Dreiberg and that was a failed experiment of a day.
"Anytime you're ready I can have your things moved from your hotel room."

Miranda tried to sort her feelings and found herself too emotional to maintain composure, so instead of keeping up her sincerity, lest it flood her, she concealed it and nodded, still only barely smiling. But the smile was genuine.
"The last place I lived before I came... here..." she said in a reflective way, "was a boarding school. I missed company... I didn't realize how much before now."

"Oh."
She felt her stomach turn, it was all hitting a little too close to home.
For years she'd been surrounded by people, people like her, people of the same mind. Now, although she believed her actions just in the name of mutantkind, she found herself alone even in a crowd of humans.
"Well, I hope I can help alleviate that loneliness."

Miranda finally smiled genuinely, and it was wide and bright, but it brought a few tears to her eyes.
"Yes, I hope you can."
She didn't brush her tears away, instead feeling overwhelmed with so many memories and the recent pressure of her agoraphobia, she retreated into silence for a moment, pulling her tea towards her and sipping at it occasionally.

Taking a hard drink from her coffee she took a long look at Miranda "Are you hungry?"

"I hadn't thought about it. Perhaps I am a little. I've been too anxious to eat lately."

"Well then that should be the first thing on the agenda" she grabbed her phone and send a message to her own secretary to cancel her plans for the afternoon. "Would you like to grab some pastries or we can head to the apartment and order take out, there is an absolutely delicious chinese food place two blocks away from my place."

"I've never had Chinese food," said Miranda with some uncertainty.

Miranda had not realized the extent of her privileged upbringing until she'd appeared in Paris. Before then she had very rarely done anything for herself, and now she did most everything for herself. She liked it to some extent - she had briefly worked as a maid for a nobleman, and afterwards as a nurse. But she was suddenly concerned about how it appeared to Regina. She had a desire to be honest with her, but a fear of what total honesty might lead to.
"Whatever you would like - I don't mind it, either way."
She finished the rest of her tea.
"Have you ever met a... another person like me? Precisely like me," she said. She did not know what the word was for what she was.

"I've met a lot of people in my lifetime Miranda, but and this is quite in a good way, I have not met many people like you" she smiled, a big toothy smile "and unlike with other people I find it really easy to talk to you. You may not believe this, but I don't have many friends."

Miranda laughed. "I'm not used to having many friends, either. Everybody at Miss Appleyard's liked me, of course. But I never felt - close to anyone."

Close Regina looked down at her empty cup and chuckled "Yes, that's a luxury I hope we can afford."

"...Miss Wilde," she said, then hesitated. It was a prying question, after all. "Why are you doing such difficult work? Lying to Luthor, managing the Taskforce - it is very high risk."
