"I could make you a sub," Thor offered.

"What is a sub?"

Loki resisted making a joke neither one of them would get and politely interjected "It's a sort of long sandwich, I think."

"Yes, it is that."

"Oh," said Meg. "Then- yes, I would like a... sub."
She said it very carefully, unaware that the pair of extremely dissimilar brothers in front of her didn't parse what she was saying as French at all.

Thor went back into the other room, gesturing that Loki should follow him, and Meg could, if she wanted to.
He was tempted to take another bite of his sandwich but he wanted to make Meg's as promptly as he could, particularly to give her a good impression of him and of staying there.

Meg perched herself on an unused patch of counter and folded her hands in her lap. She gave Loki a primly satisfied look with the slightest hint of smugness to go with it.

Loki gave her a halfhearted sneer, which didn't last very long. He had a good impression of his own to keep up, which didn't prevent him from reaching on top of the fridge and pulling down a bottle of plum brandy that Herbert von Krolock must have left behind.
He opened and sniffed it, then reached into one of the cupboards for a small glass. He poured a little of the brandy into the glass and then tasted it.
Loki scowled.
"Have you found any good drink since you came here?" he asked Thor. "Honestly, everything brewed on Midgard tastes like sugar water that's gone off or piss."

"I have not sought out drink, but I'll take your word on it."

"Haven't you ever had <i>rhum agricole?</i>" Meg interjected. "It's <i>terribly</i> expensive, but sometimes we would all buy a bottle together with our pocket money and share it. At the Opéra, I mean to say, m'sieur."
She gave Thor a very polite nod.

"No, Miss Giry, I have not," said Thor with equal politeness. "Should I?"

"I don't know if I can speak on taste, m'sieur- I'm only a poor little rat, after all- but yes."
She was looking up at him very modestly from under her eyelashes now.

"Perhaps Loki will try it, as it seems to be his interest," laughed Thor. He did not miss Asgardian drink; it was for feasting, and buoyed though his mood was, he had very little to celebrate.

"I wouldn't know where to find it here anyway- M. Veidt says that America has different laws about letting people my age drink."
He'd also insisted on forbidding her from drinking because of the baby, so she was out of luck either way.
