Meanwhile, the fearsome and degenerate god in question was midway through attempting to explain the concept of a certain film in the kitchen.
"And so, she is forced to traverse the maze herself in order to find her missing brother herself before the King can claim him," he concluded. "It's more enjoyable than it sounds, I can assure you."
He glanced at the newcomers again. Hogun looked a little guarded still, but hazarded a thin and unwilling-looking smile, while Volstagg cleared his throat into his fist.
Loki's own smile faltered.
"...this is nice, isn't it?" he said in a carefully bright voice. "Old... friends... together after all this time..."
He looked a little desperately at Thor to lighten the mood again. Loki felt like kicking himself for bringing up a story about a deceitful, child-snatching sorcerer who didn't even look like his proper species at a time like this.

In spite of everything, in spite of every reason he had (or which his friends, most notably Sif, had cultivated) to despise him, this stirred reluctant sympathy from Fandral's very core. It was not that he had earned their trust, or that he seemed especially trustworthy anymore. On the contrary, he was as shady as ever. He looked better, but foreign, and that did not garner sympathy. And they had yet to meet his to-be wife.
But his eagerness was obvious, his tone practically wheedling, and as ever, every aspect of it pleaded to be befriended and included. Even at his worst, Loki would continue to behave like that. He seemed to have a child's mind. Even misbehaving, a child believed unconditional affection was forthcoming. Loki had tried to earn their love, then he had tried to kill them. And now, by his reckoning not long after, he slavishly sought their love again.
The obvious wrongness of this earned more sympathy than a show of rightness might have. It was too piteous.
"You say this is a pre-recorded mortal entertainment festival?" asked Fandral casually. "Perhaps we might all see it. Good triumphing over evil, with music - a fitting story, I think, for renowned warriors."
A performance would not necessitate listening to Loki speak, and in that sense it was a good way to spend time with him without actually doing so.

"Perhaps we might go this evening?" he said, glancing at Thor.

Loki's face briefly spread into a vaguely convulsive smile of pleasure at the phrase "our friends".
"Let me ask Teja if that's all right-"
He made a little flexing, rubbing gesture with his left hand that somehow produced his cell phone as he opened it again, and he leaned against the counter to check the time. It was a little past one o'clock by now; Teja would be working until 4.

Thor smiled around at the rest of them at the reference to his fiancee.

At work Teja received a text. She checked it beneath the cash register. Someone was there shopping in a small group of friends but no one was quite around to chastise her.
Loki's English being atrocious as always, she took a moment to understand his kindergartener speak.
Not sure. I'm going out after work. Keep in touch <3
She felt immediately terrible about lying by hiding, but she didn't want to tell him she was going out with Graf von Krolock. He already had enough feelings about Veidt.

SI YU THES IVENING.
He slid the phone back to this-particular-God-knew-where and glanced up at the others.
"Teja has plans," he announced. "I suppose I could go purchase the tickets for the evening?"
He said this in a particularly proud way- buying tickets with real Midgardian money, imagine. The effect was heightened by his following it with a rather too-enthusiastic "Would anyone else like to come? I have to go home first, of course, I left my wallet there-"
Volstagg was, again, preoccupied with his sandwich in a particularly mortified way.

Fandral shared a look with the other two of them.
"...I'm in," he said, resigning himself, though he seemed quite cheery. "Perhaps someone should ask Sif if she is."

"I'd prefer not feeling as though I'm being subjected to an armored guard," Loki said, a scowl finally slipping through the affable facade he'd maintained all afternoon.
