He nuzzled her collarbone and the line of her throat.
"You mean you don't mind sharing?"

"Within reason-"

He laughed, delicately, and kissed behind her ear.

She sideglanced at him thoughtfully.
"...I'm still not used to this."

"...neither am I," he admitted softly.

"Being appreciated," he said darkly. "Around you, I can almost forget who- what I am..."

She cupped his face in her hands and looked in dead in the eyes, but no witty retort or life-affirming statement came to mind, so, feeling a lot helpless, she kissed him instead.

He kissed back, lips parting after a moment to let him whisper against hers.

She looked down uncomfortably.
"...in the very earliest days he had a girlfriend. She stayed with him after the accident that made him what he was, and then he left her for a little superheroine - just a teenager. Her name was Laurie Juspeczyk. There was... a disease, a really nasty one - Veidt helped discover the cure, he was on the same superhero team as Laurie and Manhattan were - it.... destroyed your organs, very suddenly and brutally. She insisted on going into a quarantined area to rescue hostages.... everyone was dead from the disease. And she died from it hours after she attempted to make the rescue." Her voice was a little hollow. "And.... that really severed Manhattan's first ties to humanity. He was never the same after that. We can really only wonder what he'd have been like if she'd lived..."

He gently put a curled finger under Teja's chin.
"...I'm not Manhattan," he said softly.
