He embraced him again, then leaned back to look at him with more solemn loyalty. "I'm not bored."

"Well, that's good."
He kissed Adrien's forehead.
There were a few gaps in the photos, illustrating the passage of years mostly through Bubastis getting bigger and sleeker at first. This was soon augmented within a few pages of this by the cigarettes vanishing first, Adrian's clothes changing and his tan seeming to fade. By the photographs labeled that they dated to the late 1970s, he looked nearly the same as now save for a few still-present differences in clothing and hair that was longer than it presently was in reality.
It was rather obvious, taken all together, that this was a man who hadn't had anything to keep albums of but himself and his cat for a long time.

It was if anything a sharp contrast to Adrien's photo album, which occasionally went for long stretches without pictures of himself.
"There are a lot of Miss Bubastis," he noted. "I thought you would have more of... of Dan or your other friend you mentioned."

"Not from Xechasmenon."

"Has no one been there for pleasure but you?"
He thought of Karnak, empty, chilling Karnak, and its hollow guest rooms, and ball room, everything suggesting Adrian had never intended this life for himself, and shivered a little bit.

"Well, most of the younger people who come there with their parents seem to enjoy it, and each other's company..."
He paused.
"It never really panned out."

"Do you mean company at Xechasmenon or the entire world of the public figure with lots of guest rooms everyplace?" he asked gently.

"It's smaller than Karnak. There's only three guest rooms."
That officially made it smaller than here.

"Only three?"

"Yes- why, is something wrong?"

"I think having more than one guest room suggests you had plans for it - isn't one the average? You know, when I was bumming with Danie I slept on the couch."

"I thought there would eventually be... others, yes."

"I guess we'll have to switch on and off between beds. I don't like having rooms we never use... it makes me feel like a stranger in, in my own home."

"You could have one of them to nap in, as you do here," said Adrian. "Would you like that?"

"That's probably what I'll end up doing," he said with a little grin, stretching and then putting his arms around Adrian's shoulders.
