Her face light up, even if she hadn't intended it to "Oh that would be lovely!" She replied "It would be wonderful break from all of this" she lifted her right hand and waved it in no particular direction before returning it to her lap.

He smiled. "I'll be sure to send an invitation. Shall I include a guest, or would you prefer to come alone?"

Her face darkened a bit "I am afraid that I do not have many friends here, so it would just be me."

"I have every confidence you'll get on well with my sister," he said. "And I would be glad to see you there. I must admit, I'm pleased that the girls here convinced you to attend the opera, otherwise we never would have met."

She nodded "As am I" a matron walked by with squinted eyes, moving slowly passed them, before picking up speed and moving along.
Nattie almost rolled her eyes, she settled for a hard blink and a roll of her head "That woman is always watching me, she is thinking that I am up to no good because I am not like the other girls. She is waiting for me to be slipping up, although I have nothing to be slipping up about" she shrugged and lowered her voice "I am thinking she does not like Russians."

"The most interesting people tend to have trouble with authority figures," he said pleasantly. "She looks quite uncannily like a dragon, if I do say so myself."

Nattie giggled "I swear, sometimes I can see steam coming from her nostrils."

He smiled conspiratorially and leaned in ever so slightly, prompting no small measure of tittering among the other girls in the room.
"You had best be careful. Keep a letter-opener on your person at all times, in case the circumstances necessitate a slaying."

"You sound like you've had experience slaying such things" she glowed "but yes I will be careful."

"Oh I'm quite an old hat at dragon-slaying. I foray into the occasional troll or werewolf, as well, though vampires are a bit out of my range of experience." He said this with his customary utter seriousness, before cracking a smile. "In truth, I'm more scared of dragons than bitter old women."

"I can only imagine" she replied with mock seriousness before giggling again.

"I left a calling card, by the way, so that everyone you know can see it and be dreadfully jealous. Your name is written quite obviously on it just in case."

"Oh how the girls will talk" she smirked and pushed a piece of hair out of her face "you are getting me too much attention Nicolas."

"You must forgive me, Nadezhda; I very much enjoy attention, you see. One word, however, and I can desist. It just seems I can't help but make a spectacle of myself." He did manage to say her name with the proper inflection and number of syllables, and was a bit proud of himself.
He frowned as he realized many of the pairs were rising and making their farewells. Also, the matrons were looking at he and Nattie significantly. "Oh, dear, it seems I've arrived late, and as such our visit is to be cut short."
He rose and bowed. "May I request the privilege of the first two dances with you, Mademoiselle Petrov, should you honor me with your presence at my ball three weeks hence?" At least he sounded quite proper, though there was an ironic little gleam in his eyes.

Nattie's face drooped a little bit, this meant she had to go back to studying and the quality of conversation around here would die.
She rose with him and nodded to his bow "I would love that and I will be there."
