"We don't have a contract yet."

"You will by tomorrow," amended Adrien, draping himself over Adrian's lap in a stretch and resting his head on his arms. "Everyone wanted to make dolls of Micaela after you made her your ward," he said in a trailing, almost wistful voice. "I bet if they knew I was practically your wife there wouldn't be any me-dolls."

"The writers of the animated series seem to want to introduce a love interest in the absence of Micaela."

He stretched again and turned slightly to his side to beam up at Adrian.
"Wellll... tell them to name her Lucie and make her a female me," he said cheekily.

"Am I your father or your lover?" Adrian said sharply, probably more so than was intended.

Adrien blinked, not knowing where the father part had come in.
"Why can't you be - I'm confused," he confessed, sweeping his hair out of his eyes with one hand, still turned up to look at him.

"Never mind."
He had no idea why Adrien's willingness to use his mother's name bothered him. It just did.

He blinked at him, looking solemn. He was one of those rare boys who wanted to be his mother when he grew up, and he did not think of using his mother's name for himself as iffy; he'd never known his father, never even heard him spoken of, so he was a nonentity in Adrien's mind. When he thought of himself as his mother, it didn't turn Adrian into his father.
"They weren't originally going to make Micaela a love interest...?" he asked, trying to feel out where the 'father' bit had come from.

"No. More of a sister figure, a sidekick if you will. After all, she was only eighteen-"
He stopped himself suddenly and sighed again.

"So then why... " He'd completely missed the bit about age and propped himself up on his knees. "What made you ask about being a father?"

"Your mother's name..."

He blinked a few times. Then he laughed and sat up, embracing him fondly and absent-mindedly.
"Just because I'd love to be my Maman doesn't make you a dad," he said, clearly perfectly bewildered as to why anyone would think so, but bemused nonetheless. "Why on earth - ?"

Belated logic bells rang for him and he studied Adrian quizzically a moment longer before suddenly, excitedly, going, "Oh, I see! You think that if I'm my mother I equate you with my dad!"
