Lex, surrounded by plenty of guards walked through the mall, his head held quite high with a terrible smile playing against his face. He'd recently written book, a fabrication on his life story, based on actual events, his editor called it a biography, Lex called it a fairy tale.
The book was full of hope and happiness, where Lex, well that's a story for another time.
But the book was only the first step to getting the public back on his side. The second was releasing a terrible sickness, then of course magically fixing it through his pharmaceutical company. The last, well, the last was always the same. Bring Superman to his knee's and prove to the world what a fraud the man of steel was.
Then again, he might start small, like Tony Stark, that was easy.
Smiling and waving at some people who recognized him, he came in to the bookstore.

Elle was sitting with a slushie bought at one of them all's multiple restauraunts and a book by a man named Lex Luthor she'd already read, or skimmed, really. Elle did a lot of light reading, but it took a lot to hold her interest for a long period of time, particularly where something like reading was involved. Sitting still was not one of Elle's strong points. She needed things to do, things to fiddle with, and the raspberry ice drink was only doing so well.
She'd bought the book because memoirs were one of the few things beyond chick books that she actually could sit through, and because the man who'd written it was going to be doing a book signing that day in that very mall - which was why the book had been on sale. Both things showed her what life could be like, something she'd not gotten much of a taste of in hers. Of course, that meant she couldn't make it very far into anything really serious - she'd get bitter and her subconscious would pass it off to her as boredom. But that didn't mean the paragraphs she'd managed to read hadn't been fun.
And if Mister Luthor was as pretty in person as he was on the cover, maybe she'd make it into the bookstore signing.
She was sitting on a bench right across from the bookstore, which was wedged between a few other stores she'd also peered into. Elle loved malls. There was so much to get bored with, but so much to replace everything else. The chaos was brightly-colored and lit up and there were people everywhere. Most of them weren't interesting, which was unfortunate, but a girl like Elle came to expect that. It came with the territory of being...unique.
When Lex Luthor did come by, Elle remained placidly in her seat, red straw at her lips as though there were nothing more interesting in all the world. She flipped through the book again. Here, some nice metaphor about brilliance, how he wasn't that, not really. It wasn't passive false modesty at all. He quoted Edison on perspiration and imagination and spoke of hard work, even if there were others not going to give him the credit, or willing to use him as a figurehead. It didn't sound true, but it sounded convincing. Elle knew enough about organizations to know there was something in it. But a man who did all that work didn't write books like this, did he? She didn't suppose it was likely.
Elle made a little blue spark appear in her cupped hand out of boredom. Blue light briefly illuminated her face before it sputtered and went out as she giggled. Elle had a habit of doing that every couple of hours no matter where she was. It was something of a nervous tic. If she didn't recall the ability, she started to get antsy.
Five minutes had passed and Elle was done with her slushie before she frowned and flickered her eyes over towards the book-signing. If she did wait till it was at about the middle of it, she was going to be stuck in a long line and would be shooed away afterwards.
That sounded really unappealing.
Elle slipped the book in her messenger tote, tossed the empty cup, and slipped into the bookstore, browsing through a selection of weather-themed bookmarks that stood beside the book-signing table. A young man was there, enthusing about the book to Mr. Luthor. His eyes wandered over towards Elle once, and she smiled at him sweetly before becoming distracted by a postcard with a picture of a bright lightning storm on it. She picked it up off the shelf and looked at it intently for a moment. ((....their icons are matchy!))

((Awesome!))
Lex had noticed the girl on his way to the store, how could one not? Of course before he saw her face, he saw his book, and it all became quite obvious that she'd be at the signing. But then he saw her face, it was familiar, in the way that you'd seen it once in a picture in someones wallet, or a social networking site on someones front page.
It bothered him.
That feeling of deja-vu, he should know her, there was something about her, that told him, that he should know her. It would bother him until he found out, he was sure about it.
Smiling as the boy rambled on, about how Lex was an inspiration to all, and that the media was unkind to him, just because he had money, and that he was doing so many good things for the world and... Blah, Blah, Blah.
Turning his head slowly, he noticed the girl standing near the booth looking at post cards, smiling he finished signing the book without looking and handed it back to the young man. "Yes, thank you very much, thank you."

Elle briefly considered trying to shoplift it, but now that she'd picked it up it would look far too obvious if she slipped it into her bag now, and she knew she'd be awkward at something like that. She liked to think she'd have been good at it if she'd had a posse and gone out and done it... but she knew very well that could've-beens were pointless.
Almost reluctantly, she put it back and slipped further into the bookstore, deciding to wait a moment. She purchased some kind of themed lollipop on a stand at the counter - some set of bad vampire books that put out merchandise on everything had apparently dug its insidious claws into this bookstore - and was sucking on it when she found her way back in a loop to Luthor's book signing.
When she put her hand in the bag as though to pull out the book, she was almost coy and hesitant. Part of her wanted to put on a really big show about how it was her favorite book or something, just for the tension of the obvious lie and the potential banter. But she really hadn't read it well enough for the lie to last long enough to be interesting.
"I read your book," she said, instead, when she held it out for him to sign it, in a tone of voice was was too adult to be a sing-song but not childish enough to be anything but baiting him.

"I saw you in the food court reading it" he took the book slowly, a smirk laying on his face like a snake "how did you like it?"
He opened the book slowly and set a well manicured hand on top of it, not ready to sign it, hoping to prolong the conversation as long as he could. He needed to know more about the mysterious girl, and once Lex Luthor had something in his head, it would take the end of the earth to remove it.
And even then, maybe not.

"Oh?" asked Elle, twirling her lollipop when it wasn't in her mouth, also intending to prolong the conversation. "Is that why you wrote it? So I would... like it?"

Lex watched the lollipop for a moment, as she twirled it and placed it back between her lips. His stomach turned with need as his smile grew "I wrote it, so that everyone could see me for me, not what those terrible tabloids say." He leaned back, removing his large coat and setting it beside him, underneath the coat was a man, of average size, large yes, but average, of course under the shirt was a toned body built by OCD.
He held out his hand to take hers "Lex Luthor as you know, and you?"

"Elle," said Elle, promptly but in a nearly schoolgirl fashion, around the lollipop, which was too small to obstruct her speech. "Bishop."
She only then pulled the lollipop out with one hand and reached to grasp his hand with the other. Her hand was warm, of course, which was to be expected. It was also slightly, only very slightly, staticky. You'd have to be paying attention to notice it.

Elle Bishop.
Even the name was familiar.
"How wonderful to meet you Elle" he shook her hand firmly, although not directly paying attention he felt it, like static electricity at a constant surge. He licked his lips softly, they were slightly numb, until he let go of her hand. It was then that he realized where he knew her from.
You see Lex Luthor had something very unique in his possession. Something that could both benefit and destroy him. He had a computer, and on this computer was a very long list of profiles, these profiles, were updated nearly everyday concerning the worlds population of meta-humans. Even though most people thought their powers were secret, Lex had a team of people out searching for any signs of super powers, all across the world.
Elle Bishop had been caught flicking lightening sources from her fingertips. She was a new addition to the list.

((It wouldn't be hard to catch her at it, either. XD She doesn't take a lot of prompting.))
Elle giggled and put the lollipop back into her mouth complacently, putting the other hand behind her back. Her fingers felt warmer than usual from having touched his bare hand. Elle didn't touch a lot of people. For obvious reasons, most people didn't quite like being touched by Elle; you never knew what you were getting into.
Her fingers flexed in the small of her back. She wanted to hold something in the palm of her hand, to make something form there.
"It's nice to meet you too, Mr. Luthor," she said, smiling. It souned like the first genuine thing she'd said.

((Exactly )) "What is it that you do for a living Elle?" His voice smooth, his eyes knowing, now suddenly glad he agreed on this book signing.

"I work for my daddy's organization," said Elle, deliberately vague. She immediately lifted a hand to her smiling mouth, extending only her index finger at her lips. "But it's a secret."
She wasn't being very careful and she knew it, but the words had just come out. Besides, even if she were to say it, no one would believe her. And... she was in quite a bit of trouble with her father. Beyond that, she hadn't actually specifically gotten permission to come to Paris and track down Sylar. She had just sort of... well, if she actually managed to bring him back, she'd be her daddy's hero, right?

Unwisely, Elle waggled her finger just slightly, still holding it to her smiling lips, and the barest of a blue spark flashed from the tip of it before vanishing.

Lex laughed, catching the spark as quickly as it disappeared, picking up his pen he began to write "I feel so sad now Elle" he flicked his pen as he finished the r on Luthor and closed the book "I feel like I'm missing out on something fun."
((I'm thinking maybe he wrote something like "For a Elle, may the sun always shine on your most treasured desires.- Lex Luthor...P.S. Lets have lunch, the book signings over in 20."))
