"There are things you don't know about me, Dottie. Things you wouldn't understand. Things you couldn't understand. I... it's complicated, really."
She looked out the window.
"Oh," she gasped. "It's almost sundown."

*Rochester looked casually over his shoulder to the window, then turned back to her.*
"I guess it is...do you have a curfew?"

*He looked back to the window.*
"Would you like an escort back home?"

"How long do you think it'll take?" she asked, sounding slightly frantic.

*Rochester was surprised by her anxiousness.*
"Well, darling, that would depend on where you are residing. My house is quite close, but I doubt that will help you much."

"Your..."
She shook her head.
"I'm staying- er- near the theater- the Opera. Right, yes. The opera."

*He pursed his lips in thought, then stood and offered his hand.*
"You'll never make it on foot, but perhaps if you are willing to take my carriage. It's right outside."

"Thank you very much," said Fiona, hastily packing up the petits fours.

"Please follow me."
*He grabbed his mousse and led her to the carriage, calling out.*
"To the Opera, as fast as you can."

Fiona climbed into the carriage, looking outside the window. The sun was hidden behind the buildings, but she could almost feel that it was probably skimming the horizon right now...
She clasped her hands and didn't look at Rochester as he climbed in.

*Rochester looked to her, concerned.*
"Are you all right, darling? Are you ill?"

"I'm fine, really."
No, I'm not fine! If I'm lucky, I'll just turn into that green thing I did back at home. That's if I'm LUCKY. If it's like last night, I'll turn into- what was it? Oh. Last night it was some kind of... hunchback.
Outside, the sunlight was now peeping from behind buildings like a halo.
She waited and waited for the inevitable, awful moment, and yet...
She looked at her hands. They were her hands.
"What?"
She thought for a moment, touched her waist and her shoulders. Nothing.
"But then that means..."
She looked at Rochester, only to see his eyes grow about twice their normal size.

*Rochester let out a gasp. In hindsight, it was rude. But what else could he have done? He pressed his lace handkerchief to his mouth for a very long moment. Without lowering it, his lips trembled and his voice was unsure.*
"You're...you're...I don't think you are all right."

"What is it?" said Fiona.
He didn't respond.
Slowly, her hand travelled up toward her face, and suddenly she knew.
"Oh, God..."
She had no nose. Good Lord, she had no nose. Her fingers explored further, and she felt her eyes had sunken in, her cheeks were hollow...
"Oh, my God..."
