Javert leaned on the desk, rubbing his temples.
It had been a long day. Four prisoners brought into custody so far- an attempted arsonist caught near the Parc, a prostitute, a petty shoplifter, and finally a rather weedy-looking attempted baby-snatcher.
The child-snatcher had been dragged in unconscious. The child's mother had been brought in too, at first- she had reportedly attacked him and had been questioned to clear her. As it turned out, her attack was completely legitimate- the man was a stranger trying to steal her child, after all- but she had proved quite capable of defending herself. According to her story, the man had resisted and she ended up slashing him across the face.
The prisoner's face was in fact marred considerably by a wide, inflamed, crusted streak running diagonally from the inner corner of the left eyebrow, across the bridge of the nose, and down the right cheek. It certainly looked deep enough to scar, and Javert rather hoped it would, to serve as a constant reminder to the perpetrator.
One of the cadets had just come running in.
"Inspector, sir, there's a man to see you about the child abductor."
Javert groaned. "Very well. Send him in."

*NEW DAY*
*Sam Vimes sat at his new desk, looking around warily. He was still getting used to the Globeworld, and it didn't feel right. Then again, he could learn to adapt to most places. He'd bloody well have to.*

**EVEN NEWER DAY**
*The men brought Johanna in, and she shook visbly with fright. One shoved her into a chair, while the other turned to his superior*
"An accomplice of Sparrow's."

Jack was promptly dragged in through another door, making arguments along the lines of "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?"

*She didn't know why, but the sight of Sparrow reassured her slightly. Maybe it was because e always lived through his adventures- maybe she would, too.*

One of the officers shackled Jack's leg to the chair, and his wrist to Johanna's, and then the two prisoners were alone.

*Johanna had two main moods: hyper and terrified. The third, complacent, was usually a mask for one of the first two. Thus, when left alone handcuffed to a notorious pirate, she seemed unsure of how to react*

Jack was now staring at his wrist and evidently trying to literally shake the girl off.

"Does this happen to you often?"

"What do you usually do?"
