"And when you're right, Adrian, you really are right," he said, having another bite of sausage with a sideways flicker of the eyes, a teasing expression on his face. Despite the intended banter in this first comment, he was wholly oblivious to the fact that slowly closing his lips over the end of a sausage and biting was at all provocative - he only did it slowly because he was watching Adrian, and that took a lot of his concentration. "But then," he said afterwards, "everyone knows that. You make such a big deal out of it."

"All right, enough."
He rapped his hand on the table, like he was calling a meeting to attention.
"If this is going to be the state of things from now on, we will need to agree on some ground rules."

Adrien was startled.
"Yes?" he asked cautiously, shoulders a little tense, slightly spooked into seriousness.

"You know that I can't have this get out into the public sphere."

He shook his head, realized what he was doing, and nodded. "But I - I always knew that part."

Adrien gasped excitedly.

"Nothing. Continue."
But he scooted closer and propped up both elbows and rested his chin in his hands.

"I- I don't want this being public knowledge. I have a reputation to worry about, and a lot on my plate-"

"I'd never tell anyone," he said, so quickly it was more like the words were tumbling out from his mouth. "Or do anything to - really. I'll be just like I have been - like, like - Micaela's assistant. You don't even have to look at me. We can just keep doing what we have been - "

This caused him to squeeze Adrien's hand.

Adrien stood up abruptly, pushing his fingers through his hair.
"You... you trust me, don't you? Adrian?"
