Adrien shook his head, almost frantically, trying not to start crying even though there were tears running down his face.
"No, no, no. It's not like that at all - "

"Don't say anything."
He kissed his forehead, with a new gentleness.

He bent his head, feeling terrible. Why did Adrian act as though the world was what you made of it, insist he'd done nothing no other man couldn't, but when speaking to Adrien tell him more or less that he had not created anything he'd become, that the universe had happened to him rather than he'd had any impact on it whatsoever. What did that make Adrian? What did it make him?
After a while of this kind of thought he started to cry - not in a racking fashion, just a little - and hugged Adrian's neck tightly. When it subsided a moment later, he said, "This is - this is - the best night of my life," still sounding as though he were crying, a little.

And how painful was that?
"I- I think I'm with you there," he said thickly. His voice had a strange compression to it, as though the combination of alcohol and his accent and everything else had pushed it into a very small space.

Adrien started crying again, holding him tightly, but not in the same frightfully clinging way. It was more as though he was trying to persuade Adrian to hold him back.

"There's no need for you to cry," he said quietly, soothingly.

"I love you so much - " he started, emotionally, though the sobbing was subsiding.

"I don't want you to ever feel you have to be anything other than what you are around me. Do you understand that?"
He gently wiped away a tear from Adrien's cheek with his artificial thumb.

Adrien nodded, looking back at him intensely and yet with the kind of trust that isn't even thought of about before it's given, his eyes dark in the lighting but luminous from the tears. He kissed Adrian's fingertip with his eyes still on him.

Adrian didn't say anything either. He took Adrien's chin in his hand and studied his face with a serene, accepting smile, and then kissed his forehead again.
"I love you too," he said, completely sincere.
He folded Adrien into his arms, and inclined himself a little lower on the mattress so they were laying down together, bodies entwined tightly and foreheads nearly touching.

Adrien curled up closer and waited to be calm. This happened, shortly. He had never felt such a very strong sense of being alone with someone else. Alone together. The whole rest of the world was outside, but they were in each other's arms.
It was easy, lulled into this sense of security, which, despite the fact that Adrien behaved as though he were secure even in the most volatile circumstances, was very rare for him, to fall asleep.
