*Raoul opens the front door and wait patiently for the girl to step through*
"You must forgive my manner Miss. I do not even know your name or you mine.I am Raoul de Changy"
*Raoul extends his hand*

*Anneke smirks at the man and takes his hand in an almost painfully strong grip.* "How do?" *She considers him doubtfully, still with the same smirk on her face.* "You don't recognize me, do you?" *At the man's blank look, she continued.* "You married my sister a while back, didn't you?"

"You are Christine's sister! Were you not at the wedding? She left me at the altar and ran off somewhere..."
*He frowned deeply*
Was she truly so ashamed of me that she did not introduce her family.
"How is it that we have not been introduced before?"

"Well, I left the wedding early--there was a lot of confusion and I couldn't even find my sister to say goodbye! And I had to get back to the orphanage quickly so I could pack my things for my journey here!"
Maybe Christine didn't want to introduce me--her impoverished, scruffy tomboy of a sister--to anyone, not even her fiance!
*Anneke looked at the ground and scuffed the toe of her boot in the dirt.*
"I'm probably too young and quirky and odd to fit in in a place like that, anyhow."
*For the first time, Anneke lost some of her bravado and was slightly ashamed at her masculine attire.*

Orphanage ? Oh her life must be truly terrible!
"There is no reason to be ashamed of your clothing. I'm sure your sister wasn't either. My sister used to dress like a man sometimes to go out around our estate and meet another girl friend of hers. She stopped when she got married of course."
*Raoul tilted his head to one side as if he was trying to get up the courage to ask something.*
Why am I so shy around her?. She reminds me of Lotte but she somehow is way better than Christine. I bet she sings better too.
"So what brings you to the Opera Miss Daae?"

"Well, Raoul--" *Anneke paused for a moment, then continued. His name seemed so right as she spoke it, somehow. She knew it must be wrong to call a man she had just met by his Christian name, but they were...related, were they not? Brother and sister now? Somehow the thought made her slightly upset.* "When my--when our father died, Christine came to live at the Opera. Madame Giry took me to an orphan asylum as I was too young to come to the Opera Populaire. She told me to wait and in a few years' time I could come to the Opera as well." *Anneke shrugged prettily, a sad smile on her face.* "A few years turned into eleven..." *Anneke blinked her wide eyes that were like pieces of silver at the bottom of a clear green fountain.* "I remember you...at least, I think I do. Your the little boy who rescued my sister's red scarf after I had accidentally let it blow into the sea. That is how you met my sister, is it not?"

*Raoul eyes widened in suprise at this lovely young womens story.*
"Yes that is how I met your sister."
*As if moved by magic he strides towards the young women and takes her delicate hands in his own larger ones.*
"I promise you Anneke if I had known you were there I would have come for you in an instant and you could have come and stayed with me at my estate."
What are you saying you fool!. She will think you are make improper suggestions!

*Anneke's alluring eyes filled with tears for a moment, as she'd forgotten her vow made years before never to cry again.* Oh! Oh! I've never had anyone care for me so much! *Without a word, the lovely young fourteen year old girl threw her arms around Raoul in an exuberant hug.* "Thank you for caring..." *she whispered.* "I've been so alone for so long..." *Anneke's tears began to roll down her face and she hastily pulled back, pushing away the salty drops with her balled up fists, setting her jaw even as her lower lip trembled slightly. The girl was so fragile, and yet so strong--even at her young and tender and impressionable age.*

*Raoul inhaled Anneke scent deeply like a chain smoker chain smoking with one hand he wiped a tear from the eyes and licked it with his tongue. It tasted salty and sweet*
mmm...I like them young
*Whilst still embracing her tightly he pulled back to look at the tearful pretty face.*
"I know there is nothing I can do that would take away from your tragic part and the hurts that it will cause. But is there anything I can do to help you now?. I fear you sister has hurt us both by leaving us alone."

*Anneke shook her head, more in bewilderment rather than any negation.* "I don't know...I feel I don't know anything anymore...not even about myself. Everything is changing and I just feel so lost! I found my sister only to lose her again and I've come to the Opera I'd always dreamed of but now I don't know what I'm to do here! I just wish..." *She sighed heavily.* "I wish...I had a teacher of some kind. Someone older and wiser, telling me what to do. Someone to guard me and to guide me..." *Anneke shook her pretty head again and turned away, presenting Raoul with a lovely profile view of herself as she lifted her chin in her silent kind of purity and strength.* "It's a silly dream..."

I am 17 going on 18 I'll take care of you
*Raoul frowned.*
"No it is not silly. Though you must beware. You must know what happened to your sister. Not all teachers mean well."
Perhaps I could help her
*Raoul brightened*
"I know of a few scholars I could hire to teach you. What do you wish to learn most?"

*A puzzled frown crinkled Anneke's nose.* "What happened to my sister? She would not tell me..." *At the prospect of learning all she wanted, she smiled.* "Oh! I want to learn about music and dancing and how to ride a horse and how to...well, I'd like to learn how to fence. I know it'd not lady-like...but I also want to learn some lady-like graces and such!" *Anneke stopped and blushed.* "But--would it be proper for a gentleman to pay for such lessons? Even if we are...brother and sister by marriage?"

How can I tell her that Christine and I never married?. I so long to.
"Any gentleman would understand the need for knowledge."
*Raoul drew her away from the glances of others still keeping her warm quivering body in his arms.*
"I would rather know who you were getting lessons from. Your sister recieved lessons from a Madman and he messed with her mind so much that she believed she loved him and broke of our engagement."
*He brought his hand to her rose tinted cheek and caressed it*
"So you see Anneke. We are not brother and sister after all"
Unless she wants to play it this way...

*Anneke blinked, in shock at this news from Raoul.* "You...you are not...married?" *She felt some kind of relief she would never admit to feeling, for she did not understand why or how she felt it.* "Then...but...I do not understand..." *Her small hands ran over Raoul's wide shoulders and down his tightly muscled chest, which she could feel, hot and strong, under the layers of his coat and shirt. She gripped the lapels of his coat and unthinkingly tugged at them. She was now acutely aware of the fact that he still held her in his arms, closely to him, and she thought her heart would beat right into her mouth, it was fluttering so. Her entire being thrummed and shuddered with these unknown sensations as her mind reeled in trying to process this information. And Raoul being so close would be such a distraction! A madman...and her sister...? Who was this madman? Why would no one tell her anything? Why did she feel so right in Raoul's arms, so safe and yet so simoultaneously terrified? She tilted her face up to his, her wide and innocent moonlit eyes brimming with questions and hazy desire that she could not name.* "I do not understand..." *she whispered again, their lips only a breath apart.*

*Raoul could not help himself with her being so near*
"Then do not understand.. I will do the understanding for the both of us."
*Saying that he closed the gap between their lips.*
