Adrian, for his part, emitted a little response-laugh that was really nothing more than a polite acknowledgment of the fact that, yes, Dan had made a joke, good on him.
"Yes, yes, duty. Quite."

"Yea..." he stared at the television, it was one of the episodes with Sydney, the one where he comes to the swamp for a vacation. It was Dan's favorite episode.

Adrian leaned against the desk, chin in hand, and examined his nails.
"So what's neeeew?"
"You know how it is, I expect."

"Oh yea, totally" Dan replied, not really fully listening to Adrian, he was trying not to laugh as a lame infomercial came on about some super absorbing towel.

(( )) "Really, Dan, I expected that you would be more careful," he said, rather out of nowhere but at least returning to the starting topic.

((HA!))
Dan sighed "Sorry mom, got carried away, that's all."

"I know that there hasn't been a formal ban on costumed adventuring here- and really, I can't help but notice that the government is spectacularly incompetent at quelling anything that needs to be quelled, let alone vigilantism... but one cannot afford to not think matters through."

Trying not to roll his eyes, afraid that Adrian might be able to hear it from the phone Dan exhaled and sat up.
"Adrian, this city needs heroes and you know it, if I was able to stop something that would have got more than just some terrorist killed, you know damn well that I would do it. You know how terribly ineffectual the Paris police force is, somebody had to help, and I just happened to be there."

"You or the Batman, and I expect the hostages were probably far happier to have you than him," Adrian said with a slight laugh. "You were always so... soothing in action, Dan, to those you weren't fighting."

Dan smiled lightly "Well thanks, Adrian, coming from you, that means a lot."

Dan laughed, he had heard that one before "On my honor I will do my best, to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight."
He blushed "It didn't help that the boy scouts were run by Catholics, I was the only kid there with a yamaka."

"Oh, yes, I'd forgotten."
He hadn't, for a number of reasons.

"It's all right" he yawned and rubbed his eyes.
